@caver01 if you’re using the Arcade folder. Put the neogeo bios folder in the Arcade folder. fba looks for the files in whatever folder the game rom is in

@caver01 I use lf-finalburnalpha, i use the neo geo system separate so all my roms are in:
/home/pi/retropie/roms/neogeo

I took the neogeo.zip file and unzipped it to a folder called neogeo on my mac, then i uploaded the whole folder to the directory above via ssh.
/home/pi/retropie/roms/neogeo/neogeo <-- this folder contained all the bios

@caver01 Also, double check your emulator, you might have the arcade folder defaulting to MAME, i havent tested this method with mame and it might not work. I'm definitely using FBA and the zip folder is long gone.

@caver01 Well didn't know that there is no solution for this old topic. As linux is case sensitive we can have multiple instances of the "same" file ;)

Be carefull - Case sensitive

Rename neogeo.zip to neogeo.ZiP

That's all ;) I think extracting is a whole mess I would avoid for the sake of 1 entry
And changing the entries in es_systems.cfgis also bad :)

This "trick" works only for arcade and fba but not for NEOGEO ;) But I think that's a bug in ES

Hey all, Ive found the easiest solution to this issue. Just unzip the neo-geo.zip file and put the now neo-geo folder into your Neo Geo games folder. since none of the files in the bios are .zip, the whole folder is hidden. The bios doesn't have to be zipped up.

@capeman Yes, see above. I listed all of the paths and everything. I am doing exactly what you say you are doing, but lr-fbalpha is apparently not finding the BIOS files in the properly named folder. I also understand how to select emulators using runcommand. lr-mame2003 is the default for me in the Arcade folder, but for these roms I am using lr-fbalpha.

@meleu I will give that command a try tonight--away from my Pi for most of the day. Thanks.

@cyperghost The whole point of this exercise is to avoid 1 entry. Extracting may seem like overkill to you, but we want a solution, not a rationalization. Also, changing cases of characters does not work for me. It hides the entry, but does not launch.

Is it possible I have a permissions issue on the folder that gets created when I unzip? I am doing the unzip over the network--connected to the ROMs mount via Samba from my mac.

@lostless It depends which emulator u use. I tried to 7zip the file and it worked for lr-pifba but not for pifba. And I edited the entry in my posting. Changing the characters of the BIOS works for arcade-folder and fba-folder but not for NEOGEO :(

@caver01 It's a pitty it is not working for you. For me it's working to mix upper-lower character for suffix ... but I can't hide the file via upper-lower-case-mix if I put it in NEOGEO folder. So sorry my way of rationalization is not working for you.

Try using the unarchchiver on Mac. It’s what I used. It’s in the App Store. Could be that apples own unzipping program is messing with permissions.

This I kinda doubt because I was able to unzip the bios, unzip mslug, rezip the combined, and it plays fine with everything.

I would rather not have to do that for every neogeo game however.

You might know this already but you can use ClrMamePro to build partial non-merged sets with only the game/ROMs you want. Basically dump all the neogeo sets and the bios into ClrMamePro and let it do the work. You'll get a lot of errors of other incomplete sets but the neogeo sets will be complete with BIOS.

@riverstorm Yeah, I know that's how it is supposed to work. I have a terrible time with clrmamepro. I shouldn't complain about a tedious manual process on the one hand, and then refuse to use the automation tool on the other, but that's what I am doing.

No that's ok I just wanted to throw it out there just in case. I remember banging my head a few times figuring out ClrMamePro now I don't know what I would do without it. Hopefully like someone mentioned earlier it'll be a check box or radio button down the road to get rid of that pesky file once in for all. :)

Does this work for lr-fbalpha with roms with the FBA folder?

I tried this over the weekend and it didn't work for me either. I unzipped the neogeo ROM set to a folder under ~/RetroPie/roms/fba/neogeoand I also tried ~/RetroPie/roms/fba/neogeo/neogeo but neither was a success.

If it's a game that requires the BIOS files such as Metal Slug it starts and drops back to the game selection menu. If it's a game that doesn't require the BIOS files it works fine.

Everything works fine if they (BIOS files) are in neogeo.zip alongside the ROM sets.

@riverstorm or-fbalpha is exactly what I use. I have no idea what’s going on with others. I’ve gotten it to work on 2 copies of retropie. Try fixing permissions from the retropie menu. Somewhere in there is an option to reset the rom folder permissions

I do not believe it's a folder permissions issue. I manually create folders when logged in as pi. Current permissions shown below.

/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba

Group: pi [1000]
Owner: pi [1000]

EDIT: I am using RetroPie 4.3 updated to 4.3.3.
