"sound.sh" play: not found

@sirhenrythe5th You seem to be missing
mc
ie Midnight Commander. Judging by a few of your posts there seems to be something seriously awry with your install. I would install this first.sudo apt-get update
thensudo apt-get install mc
But I think you have more severe problems than that. Try a full update of RetroPie after installingmc
. If things are still a bit off I would recommend a fresh install. -
@jonnykesh
Im using Retropie 4.3.3, updated all packages yesterday evening from 4.3.1.
MC is there, i use it nearly daily to manage my setup, i have no PC ☺.
But i never recognized that mc has been ever updated, i updated my setup several times starting with v2.x.
Maybe it is a really old Version from the beginning of me starting with retropie.
How can i update only mc? -
My Version is: 4.8.13
-
Update: i investigated a little more.
I checked the paths from the error message and can confirm: the folders /home/usr/libs/mc all exist!
Also "sound.sh" is there!
So i opened the sound.sh in mc by hitting F3 and had a look inside.First thing i realized: also mp3 and ogg are mentioned in the code.
So i tried to use a mp3 file.
Did not work with another error message "File extension not supported - use wav"
Ok, no surprise.
So i tried the same procedure with another wav-file than two days before, maybe the file was corrupt.The old message "play: not found" again.
So i had another look in sound.sh and did not find any "play" command.
There are "begin" and "end" syntaxes, but no "play".So could it be that the slideshow-screensavers wants to force the sound.sh to "play" something and it only says "what do you want from me? Play???? Go home noob, there is no"play" here.
Has anyone got it running at all?

@sirhenrythe5th install the
sox
package -
@buzz just read about sox, that makes sense - thanks a lot once more buzz!!!
sudo apt-get install is the right command?
-
@sirhenrythe5th Yeah
sudo apt-get install sox
-
Finally got it working!
The installation of SOX alone did not change anything.
But then i tried something that reminded me of an issue i had with Zaxxon under MAME: as soon as you deactivated the demo sounds in the DIP-Switch Menue there was also no support for the samples.And this is similar to Slideshow-Sounds in Emulationstations Screensaver: you HAVE to activate the Navigation-Sounds in the Audio-Settings!!!!
Now everything works great, i like the slideshow very much, thanks for adding this feature! 👍😎
-
@sirhenrythe5th if you mean that you have to enable sound in ES, that sounds about right. Is that what you're saying?
Glad you're sorted:)
-
It is called "Navigation Sounds" in the Audio Menue of Emulationstation and means the click-fx when you browse through the gamelists.
I did not know that ALL sounds where connected to this item.Maybe because english is not my native language (live in germany), but i thought that this really concerns only the Navigation-Sounds, and not the whole sound - support in general 😊
But however: now its working and im enjoying the orchestral version of shenmues title theme while all my seperate downloaded artworks (took months 😊) are presented.
Very sweet! -
@sirhenrythe5th No, not at all! "Navigation Sounds" does indeed suggest what you understood.
I'm not fully sure why that would be related, but in that case maybe that option could be renamed. :)
Thanks!
