Hi everyone, just a quick observation
So I started with RetroPie quite some time ago - then progressed through the various iterations before landing on AttractMode, then HyperPie and now Im back with vanilla RetroPie 4.3 - the speed of the interface and its simplicity make for a much richer gaming experience - without the lag and drag of the HyperSpin lookalikes (Im also a Hyperspin user btw, on the PC).
Wondered if anyone else has made the same journey?

@lamaman1971 Glad to have your feedback and impressions, and happy that you're happy with EmulationStation as the current frontend.
Would definitely be interested in hearing your perspective on what you miss from other setups, as well as what you feel ES currently does well and shouldn't be changed.
I personally have always been stuck in EmulationStation-land, so I'm always keen on learning others' perspective.
Best.

In honesty, I think the balance in RP is pretty much spot on at the moment. Although folks don't want to hear it the Pi3 doesn't have the horsepower to drive a HyperSpin front end seamlessly and - unless you can live with a little lag - I wouldn't recommend it. Ultimately the aim is to access your ROM's with the emulator and RP does this without any real hassle. It's ironic that a front end puts more pressure on the performance of the Pi than the emulation itself (for the older stuff at least).
Personally, I'm more about the Bezels, filters and making the emulated game look "right" - I feel I've burned far too much time messing around with these alternate front ends to the detriment of the actual gaming experience.
Maybe the next iteration of the Pi will resolve some of the performance issues for AttractMode -IMHO it just needs a little extra boost to get it where it needs to be. For now, where I need that type of front end I just use a windows PC and hyper spin - works great.

@lamaman1971 Thanks for sharing. Definitely share your feedback on bezels, filters and the like with the community - there are plenty of people here in search for the perfect set up as well, so the more the merrier!
Cheers.
