Wireless controller not working properly

My controllers seem to be connecting and registering ok. They work moving and selecting a game on the menu screen but then when I go to play the controls are all messed up. The a button for example is the start button. I have also tried configuring the controller but still the same results. I have a pie 2 and am using 8bitdo snes controller. Any ideas?

How are you connecting the controller ? I assume it's USB, since the PI2 doesn't have a bluetooth chip. Do you have more than 1 controller ?
