SNES Roms not Recognized
-
I just installed RetroPie 4.3 rpi 1_zero from the premade SD image on the Retro Pie website. I believe I am using a Raspberry Pi B+, but I bought it several years ago so I am not positive. It shows 4 raspberries when I boot it up, which leads me to believe it is not a Raspberry Pi B+ (based on First Install guide).
I transferred some SNES roms via USB stick (following First Install guide) that I have had for about 10 years. I've been using them with SNES 9X 1.42 on my pc. When I look at most of the roms on my pc, their file type shows as "file". The rest of my roms are .srm files. RetroPie does not give me the option to play SNES. When I go to the File Manager on Retro Pie, I can see that the files are under the SNES Roms folder. I see that "file" file type is not an accepted extension (https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Super-Nintendo-Entertainment-System/), but shouldn't RetroPie allow me to play the .srm files? Is there a way to convert these "file" roms to an acceptable file type (i.e. can I just zip them)? Would installing SNES 9X 1.42 on my raspberry pi allow me to play these "file" roms?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not very familar with Linux, Raspberry Pie, or Retro Pie so no answer is too obvious. Thanks!

@dlawrence529
.srm
files are not ROMs, just emulator generated files to keep the ROM state. As stated in the docs, your ROM files should be either have a.zip
,.smc
, .etc extension.
If the file containing the ROM dump does not have the proper extension, it will not show up in the Emulationstation list.
Can you show a listing of the folder where you copied the ROMs ? -
@mitu Thanks for the response. Do you mean the folder on Retro Pie or my pc?
-
@dlawrence529 I mean the folder on the RetroPie system, the
snes
folder where the ROMs have been copied. -
@mitu here is a photo of the listing
-
@dlawrence529 So your ROMs don't have any file extension. As I said, they need to have the proper extension to be recognised as ROMs by Emulationstation - rename one of them and add the
.smc
extension to it, restart ES and see if the ROM is recognised and playable. -
@mitu Thanks! I had no idea you could just add an extension to a file like that. I just tested one out and it is working great

@dlawrence529 A name is just a name, nothing more. Glad you got it sorted out.
