How much memory does the retropie 4.3 update take up?

@jlsscorpio13 What update are you referring to ? The update of the script itself or the update for the installed packages ?

@jlsscorpio13 also, when updating cores, do i update all core packages through retropie setup or do i update cores through retroarch itself?

@jlsscorpio13 You update your cores through the RetroPie setup script, using the 'Update all packages'.
The setup script update doesn't take more than 10-15 mb. If you update all packages - from binary - , that could get you to 40-50 Mb.

@mitu i updated all packages, was wondering if updating all core packages was covered in the update, my goal was updating to 4.3 and was wondering if core packages was different or if it was with the all packages update?

@jlsscorpio13 The update all packages option will update both the RetroPie setup script and all the included packages - Emulationstations, RetroArch, lr-cores, emulators, ports, etc.
