[Question] Gnash on RetroPie?
-
So as a fun experiment, and putting all concerns about performance aside, I wanted to see if it was possible to run Shockwave/Adobe Flash games on a Raspberry Pi 3: Model B. After doing some research, I came across a piece of software called Gnash, which seemed like exactly what I wanted: a SWF file player that can run on the Pi.
Only one problem though: it seems that Gnash requires some kind of window system; as when I attempt to run a file in it, it gives the "gtk: cannot open display" error.
No problem, I asked a few people in a Discord server, and found out about Openbox. However, due to the nature of window managers, I fear that installing it will somehow mess with the rest of my RetroPie setup. I've also heard that it might be possible to run some kind of lightweight browser that supports Gnash, but I'm not sure if there are any Gnash-supported browsers that don't require a window manager.
So I'm kinda stuck on the fence here; has anyone else attempted to run Gnash on their RetroPie setups? Can it even be done? And does installing Openbox conflict with anything else on your setups?

Yes I have. The swf files ran sub 1fps. It was unfortunately a very fruitless endeavour. Can be done but impractical to be useful on hardware like the pi. I'll say it again. Flash is dead.
