MAME ROW stands for MAME Random Of the Week. We randomly select an arcade game from the 0.78 MAME Reference Set to play on the week. The idea is to play games we've never played before, interact with other forum members, post hi-scores, share game strategies, fun facts, and (the most important) HAVE FUN!
Notes:
-
We usually post hi-scores screenshots after playing with only one credit. If you used more than one credit, please mention it on your post.
-
There's no need to use RetroPie to join the MAME ROW! You can play it on any platform you want.
-
Feel free to post your hi-score (or any content about the game) anytime you want on the previous rounds topics (link below).
Every Monday we create a topic at the "General Discussion and Gaming > MAME Random Of the Week" forum section with the 3 random games to be voted. And on Wednesday we check the result.
These "rules" are constantly being improved!

Well first off, Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays y'all!
Anyways, that out of the way, I've heard of NARC already
thanks to a certain YouTuber, but Peter Pepper's Ice Cream looks the most intriguing to me, simply due to it's bizzarre premise. -
@supercatfooz Peter Pepper looks like the same proprietor from Burgertime. A sequel perhaps? It looks like the gave him the ability to jump ove the bad guys. Also, he jumpcross motorcycle game reminds me of Bump-n-Jump. Might be very fun.

It is indeed. It stands as one of two sequels to 'Burgertime' that deviate somewhat from the classic play mechanics of the original. Although the game play here is much more satisfying than the other red-headed stepchild of the series, 'Diner' for the Intellivision, the difficulty is ramped up considerably and the mandatory DECO cassette load times are considerable. I've tried to cheat the latter by saving a state after it was done loading, but the game just scrambles once the state is reloaded. All in all, it actually is a blast to play once you get into a rhythm, but it's flaws make it clear why you don't hear this game spoken of too often in retro-gaming circles.

This week's winner is Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory

That artwork is amazing!
-
@mediamogul Seconded, I really dig the thing up top where it shows various actions in alternating colors. Someone should make that into a theme or something.
-
Has anyone managed to get this to work?
-
I've played it in both lr-mame2003 and advmame on my RetroPie setup in the past. Do you have the required
decocass.zip
BIOS file? -
@mediamogul ah, that was my problem. Thanks!
-
No problem. I haven't had time to go for a high score run myself, but I did fire it up earlier in the week as a refresher. It really seems like the key to success is mastering the jump mechanic. I had forgotten how frustrating the hit detection can be with the ice cream. It's best not to get too caught up in landing any one particular scoop. If it doesn't happen in one or two tries, move on and come back later.
-
@mediamogul The BIOS wasn't in the initial post, so I updated it for anyone else who had trouble like I did. I can see why the cassette system didn't gain more popular appeal. ;)

MAME ROW #67 is live!
-
@obsidianspider hello, I recently tried running this game on my pie with no luck. I see that you've mentioned a bios which I've obtained but I'm not quite sure where to put it to get it running? Can you provide any assistance?
-
@Vega It should be in the same folder as the game ROM
