Trying to use a tankstick with raspberry pi3
Newbie here. I checked the other posts and although the tankstick is discussed I have not been able to get the joysticks or trackball to work within mame games like robotron or missile command. After trying the solutions from the videos presented here on setup using retrocarch and xarcade2jstick driver download, I am able to configure both joysticks and buttons for two players. Everything seems to cooperate until I get in the games and then I can only use the left side of the tankstick using the buttons instead of the second joystick. When playing Robotron the game also suddenly jumped from the player one left side controls working to the right side player two joystick and buttons. Not sure how to explain that one. Sorry if this is repetitive, but after having following the videos and tutorials both here and through YouTube, x arcade support, etc.. I realize that I am probably missing an easy step or else I may have screwed things up by trying all of these different solutions. Thanks for any help -
@runthesystem5 I am having tons of issues with the
trackball as well. I used the xarcade image and it worked but for some reason stopped when I put the machine together. Now I cannot get it to work.It states in their instructions to
"Play! The first time you run an Arcade game be sure to choose 'lr-MAME2003' as your permanent emulator for full trackball support." but I can not see lr_advmame anywhere in retrpoie...

What do you mean by this? you yourself have identified the fact that you need to choose lr-mame2003. Why are you then looking for an emulator that doesn't exist?

Moreover, you can install advancemame using the retropie menu, but you will need to read the wiki and configure it properly.
Actually, a lot of improvements have come to lr-mame2003 a result of recent retroarch development. X-arcade is doing a serious disservice to their customers by recommending their own image. First, third party images violate a bunch of license agreements, but the last time I checked, X-arcade had a note on their download page that you should never perform an update! What kind of nonsense is this?

I posted a help article that explains how to edit a config file to force Ir-mame2003 MAME games that use trackball or dial control to use the mouse (in this case, Arcade-X Trackball) that may help:
Also, I would avoid using a USB hub. I used a third party case that used a USB hub and trackball on the X-Arcade would not work. When I plugged the mouse into its own USB port on the Raspberry Pi, the Arcade-X trackball started to work. I still had to edit the config file to get other games to work that used a dial controller (Tempest, Kickman, etc.), but pluggin the Arcade-X Trackball USB cable into a USB hub and not directly into a USB port on the Raspberry Pi caused issued.
