.z64 and .n64 Roms will not load
-
I have a pie 3
I'm using the canakit hardware and power supply
I have retropie 4.3 installed
I installed as an iso onto a micro usb
I have two SNES knockoff controllers plugged into usbI have working SNES and NEW roms loaded
When I transfer any .z64 or .n64 rom onto the pie using the usb flash drive method, and restart emulation station, the games load into the correct folders, and the n64 choices appear. But when I select any n64 rom to play, it begins to load, and then returns to the game menu. I checked the logs, and after one attempt this is what it says:
pi@retropie:/dev/shm $ cat runcommand.log
Parameters:
Executing: /opt/retropie/emulators/mupen64plus/bin/mupen64plus.sh AUTO "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/n64/Star Fox 64 (USA) (Rev A).z64"
/opt/retropie/emulators/mupen64plus/bin/mupen64plus.sh: line 423: 4522 Segmentation fault SDL_VIDEO_RPI_SCALE_MODE=1 "$rootdir/emulators/mupen64plus/bin/mupen64plus" --noosd --windowed $RES --rsp ${RSP_PLUGIN}.so --gfx ${VIDEO_PLUGIN}.so --audio ${AUDIO_PLUGIN}.so --configdir "$configdir/n64" --datadir "$configdir/n64" "$ROM"I don't know if every rom was getting this "segmentation fault" or just this one, I didn't have the patience to check every rom, but it feels like an issue with all of them, I'm mostly certain.
Feel free to shoot tech talk at me and ask questions, I'm pretty savvy. I might ask questions, so lets all just agree to be patient. Thanks for the help, I know you guys don't have to do this.

@zkreider after you choose a game, there is the box that says “press a button to configure “ press some buttons to get to that configuration screen. Change the emulator from mupen64 to lr-mupen64 and try it with star fox. If it works then you have an issue with mupen64. Otherwise you might not have let your roms transfer completely. I personally only use lr-mupen64 because the others are just slow with too much lag and i refuse to play a game like that.

@zkreider you may possibly have a bad set of ROMs. I would try a different version of the same game and see if that works for you. Make sure you understand the ROM naming nomenclature. Before I understood this I had put a bunch of (b) ROMs on my pi and then found out that it stands for bad dump.

@edmaul69 Changing the emulator made the games run, thanks much. However my A and B are swapped, and I can't navigate the menus. I think it's because a 64 controller has joystick AND a D-pad, and Starfox works on the joystick, and I only have SNES style controllers. When you play 64 games, what controllers do you use?
Thanks for the tip @quicksilver ! I have only been loading [U] and [!] - which means US and good dump.

@zkreider i use a real n64 controller to play the n64 games

@zkreider I use a wireless Xbox 360 controller, works pretty good and you can pick them up for cheap. I have heard ps3/4 controllers are also good.
