I have my retropie build and I really want to use authentic nes/snes classic edition controllers. I own these other classic mini consoles and would like to use their controllers for retropie. These controllers use the Wii port so I am looking for a working adapter that works as a Wii to usb converter. I’ve heard about the mayflash converter but it seems like it doesn’t work well.

Has anyone tried this elecom gamepad converter on retropi? Link below. I want to use official controllers that I already own so I’m aware of substitute third party controllers already.

@jcrod1000 Don't know about the one you posted.
This is known to work. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mayflash-PC052-Classic-Controller-Adapter-purple/dp/B0089O4EB0 Only problem is that it will only recognise one controller at a time. So you might need 2.

@jcrod1000 i use the official classic controllers on a wiimote using a mayflash dolphinbar. Works with the adapter johnny posted too. They should work just fine with the adapter you posted.

@edmaul69 Ah, okay. Maybe I'm spreading misinformation! I had read a few things about both controllers only registering as a single through the adapter.

@jonnykesh yeah I heard they are hit or miss on working. Some say they only read both controllers as the same one ie player 1. I would hope it reads player 1 and 2.

This might be a difference in firmware versions. Also, there's an older model of the Dolphinbar that I know registers as a single input source. It has one switch on the back rather than two and the firmware can't be upgraded.

@mediamogul i need to figure out if i can modify the dolphinbar firmware. I hate how they messed up the differences between wiimote, chuck and classic controller. Biggest issue is the + & - on the wiimote. If i am using something like a sega master system “classic controller” that has no select and start on it. I might just set the hotkey and exit to the home button and use a keyboard or different controller for the rgui.

I think we may be talking about two different products. I see there’s a dolphinbar that’s like the original Wii sensor by mayflash and there’s a USB adapter that’s for plugging in these odd shaped Wii style control input.

@jcrod1000 they made a few versions of the mayflash dual wii classic controller adapter too.

Unfortunately, for better or worse, the latest changes to the firmware are all lumped in with the update that saves the lifespan of the LED lights. Without it, the lights are reported to last only a few months.

That's the way to go. Even with the firmware fix they're on borrowed time. I've thought about getting ahead of the issue and replacing mine now, but it's probably not wise to court problems before their time.

How do I know if I’m buying the newer version of the dual adapter?
