@ruckage @SgtJimmyRustles Wait they are both not the same game? I thought it was just the same game ported to different systems.

@obsidianspider that sucks man. I didnt opt for a lower temp soldering iron, I just used my usual one. The DMG gameboy is alot more durable for sure when it comes to this fix, the ribbon cable can really take the heat.

That being said, its not always the fix. Sometimes the ribbon cable is too far gone.

Yeah totally different games, you should try both if you haven't already.

One thing's for sure - Megadrive/Genesis cases are much nicer (those cardboard SNES cases were terrible - I'm sure most ended up in the bin as they got so tatty). What was it with Nintendo and cardboard cases. On the plus side boxed Snes games are now rarer so worth more.

I always liked the MD stuff more than SNES.
IMO SNES was more mainstream where MD was more for "real" gamers, more gore inside. At least that is what I thought about it then.
I also liked the MD boxes. For cartridges best there ever was. Just the manual holder sucked and you tend to loose them or damage them more often.

The downside of MD is, if you would start to collect all the games now it would cost you a lot, lot money. Acclaim titles are very expensive.

@sgtjimmyrustles due to the genesis’ crappy color palette and crappy audio i prefer any game on the snes over the genesis version. Not saying anything wrong with the genesis as i love playing genesis and sega cd just a personal preference when playing games that are available on both.

There's a case to be made if it's the same game and it plays the same, yes. But these are two completely different games that just so happen to contain the same character.

The smoother animations, the fact that the Genesis Version is super chilled and laid back (Look at all the background items in the desert, the dungeon, and the Genies levels for example) and you can see that Virgin games really put a lot of love into the game, and it shows. You know that it was the third best selling genesis game right?

I just learned about Crusader of Centy from SNES drunk. It looks like a really cool game, but it's selling for $500+ on eBay right now...

That does look cool, I've never played that - I'll have to give it a try.

Regarding the price of the games, when the Snes and Megadrive came out I was young and couldn't afford to buy the games because they were expensive - I used to trade them in for new games otherwise I'd rarely have anything new to play (there were some exception that I never traded though). Now I'm older the games are rarer and even more expensive so I still can't afford them so not much has changed :D .

Wow, that game is pretty legit. Easily looks like it has SNES visuals in my opinion.

Wonder why the US version of the Centy game cost around $500 and the Japanese version only a fraction of it like $30. And besides I always had my issues with those retro game price policies. Who defines them? I mean I could put Sonic on ebay for $1000 does that make Sonic a 1000 bucks game?
I can accept if a game has been actually sold for such a price but anything else is just a fluke, right?
I keep seing high priced games on ebay but rarely see one go for such high price.

@flyingtomahawk US games go for a lot more because most people don’t know how to read Japanese. If I could I’d totally be buying the Japanese versions of games.

@obsidianspider you and me both. Like @FlyingTomahawk was saying, the Japanese releases are usually a fraction of the price. Plus there are a lot of games I really wish I could understand that never got a US release or in English.

I guess a game is worth what people are willing to pay for it. I normally check sold listings on ebay to get a realistic idea of how much items are worth, some people list items with unrealistically high prices but no one ever buys them so they aren't worth the asking price.

                                @obsidianspider
The Centry game is know as Soleil in Europe, and the price it sells for ranges from £40 - £80. There is a copy for sale in Germany at the moment for £26.93. Not sure if you can select English as a language option though in the German version.

So a game gets his current value on the price sold.
So let's say you and me are gonna raise a price for let's say Game A. So I put Game A on eBay or somewhere where it gets a lot of attention for a ridiculous price. Then you as my friend purchase that item. (but don't really pay me) I then cancel the deal on eBay or even pay the eBay fee just to keep the price high. Then from that day on that game has such value because it was sold for that high price. Right? We could even repeat that procedure a few more times with fake accounts.
I know I am overthinking it but it just boggles my mind to think in a time where cheating is normal as drinking water. I have seen auctions go higher in price because the seller asked 1-2 friends to place fake bids.
When I go around the Japanese game stores I can see some still have the same rare games for the same ridiculous price for the past 10 years! So that would mean that THAT game should actually loose its value since it hasn't been sold for such high price for the past 10 years. Or not?

IMO that is all stupid price policy. I understand if there is a game only printed/made 10-50 pieces world wide and they are rare because there are simply not many around but seeing a $300+ game over 10 times within 1 year sold by different stores does smell not right to me.

@lilbud it is real. My mom bought it for $6 at a local game store in the 90’s. I removed the price sticker that was on the front of the box.

I thought the sealed tengen tetris i sold for $500 was awesome. The last boxed version of panic restaurant sold for $1350 and that was cheaper than the other ones that sold.

@obsidianspider @celly Well, you both could learn Japanese, some people do such things for their hobby. (I'm dead serious here.) It would also open other Japanese media to you, like mangas, animes and real movies. And it would give you enormous street credibility among nerds. ;)

It would take some time and thus be more of another hobby itself, but it's certainly doable and may be worth the effort. Who knows, it may even help you in your professional life, as language skills tend to do.
