Retro Pi 4.4 freeze initially on Raspberry Pi Zero
-
Hardware: Raspberry Pi Zero
Retro Pi Version: 4.4 pre made image from website.
Power Supply: 5 V 2 Amp
Peripheral: wired USB keyboard HP, kiwitata SNES USB controllerOk sorry I’m new to this, but I’ve wanted to do this retro Pi game system for awhile but I cannot get past the initialization. If I keep it still it will freeze, if I try to start configuration of a controller it freezes. I scoured looking for similar issues but none seem to work. I’ve tried,
Rewriting the image on the card.
Tried 4.3 image.
Installed Raspbian Stretch to see if freezing happened with that(No freezes) even running Minecraft Pi.
Tried Etcher program rather than win32 imager.
Running it without controller to see if that was the issue
I’m really stumped. If it was the card or Pi wouldn’t Raspbian Stretch not work?

@jani721 do you have a USB hub plugged in?
-
I did have a hub that was from amazon. I removed the hub from the equation and the freeze still happens. But when using the hub with Raspbian Stretch for Keyboard and mouse there were no issues
-
Yeah idk short of just taking it step by step and testing different things out I haven't the foggiest.
If all else fails could just install retropie on top of the raspbian stretch image
-
If I do install over Raspbian will I have to load that environment and click into the RetroPie environment like a PC?
-
@jani721 No, the RetroPie image is built on Raspbian Lite, so you'll get exactly the same behavior by manually installing RetroPie on top of Raspbian.

There are tweaks already made in the image that would need to be done manually eg booting to client/autoloading ES etc. But it's all easy enough to configure through the setup script

Alright thanks. I will have to give this a shot this weekend.
