Updating Retropie Issue (2.6)

Hi there! I'm currently using a Raspberry Pi model 2B, with a 32gb SD Card, and am using Retropie version 2.6. I figured it was time to update everything to the newest version, so I went into Emulation Station and started the Retropie Setup.

From there, I clicked on Update Retropie-Setup Script. It ran for a second, and then an error message popped up saying exactly the following:

error: Your local changes to the following files woulbe overwritten by merge:
supplementary/splashcreens/retopie-2015blue/splashcreen.png Please commit your changes or stash them before you can merge. Aborting

And then I only have the option to hit OK, and I'm brought back to emulation station. When I first set up Retropie, I did change the splashcreen.png to one of my own, I followed this guide I believe.

It's hard to remember, but I think I just renamed my picture 'splashcreen.png' and deleted the old one, and replaced it.

If anyone can please help me, I'd love to resolve this issue so I can update my Retropie :D Thank you!

Secure your settings and roms and head up to newest Retropie building 3.8.1 directly via delieverd image file.
Secure your sd-card via image read.

The newest versions automatically expands your sd-card space. For controller config... it may be possible that you have to use the RGUI now.

Builds up to 3.6 are based to Debian Wheezy
Builds > 3.6 are based to Debian Jessie

So updates from 2.6 to 3.8.1 are difficult to handle.

you can't upgrade from 2.6 to the latest really (not unless you are very confident in linux). you need to backup and start from a fresh image/install.

Okay I backed up my SD-card with Win32diskimager - how do I 'secure' my settings and roms?

And how do I put 3.8.1 image file onto my SD card at that point? Do I just overwrite?

Download Linux Reader from here: http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/
Install the programm and open the backuped Image in Linux Reader for doing this: Start Linux Reader, click on Drive and then on Mount Image, RAW Image and open your IMG file.

Now navigate to /home/pi/RetroPie/save ROMS-Folder.
You have to right-click on ROMS-Folder and then a window pop ups, select save, save with file structure....

I think there are no more settings to save, because version 2.6 differs much from 3.8.1. Maybe you've tweaked some config files or self written scripts, but you now know, how to save your old files via Linux Reader.

Perhaps you can think about using a 4GB sd-card for RetroPie OS and storing your ROMS on an external device? :)

Important: The programm is called Linux Reader and NOT Linux Writer! It is not able to write files TO image files!
