USB SNES Controller Input Messed up in Games
-
Having an issue with my USB SNES controller. I am using a RP 3 and am on 3.8.1 (Tried beta 4.0, too), and whenever I enter gba/nes/snes/gc game the start button no longer works and the select button becomes the start button. The controller works fine in the EmulationStation. I didn't find anything specific to snes controllers that was specific to this. I also tried peeking at config files, but the entire configuration hierarchy was over my head.
I also tried remapping for a specific core, but i wasn't seeing all the available buttons to remap to.
I have tried an F710 and had no issues with it. The SNES USB Controller is this one.
if its garbage, that would be good to know :)

@SirGive can you paste the content of your
/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/YOUR_USB_SNES_CONTROLLER_NAME.cfg
here? -
input_device = "USB Gamepad " input_driver = "udev" input_start_btn = "9" input_exit_emulator_btn = "9" input_up_axis = "-1" input_a_btn = "1" input_b_btn = "2" input_reset_btn = "2" input_down_axis = "+1" input_right_axis = "+0" input_state_slot_increase_axis = "+0" input_x_btn = "0" input_menu_toggle_btn = "0" input_select_btn = "8" input_enable_hotkey_btn = "8" input_y_btn = "3" input_left_axis = "-0" input_state_slot_decrease_axis = "-0"

It's easy to solve. I would need more info to help you, but I think you can solve it yourself.
Try the core input remapping: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/RetroArch-Configuration#core-input-remapping
If it don't solve your problem, you'll need to read a little more:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/RetroArch-Configuration#hardcoded-configurationsGo on man! I believe in you! :-)

I tried core input remapping, but its an issue with all cores (and the select button is now the "start button" so I can't remap per core).
The start/select work perfectly in the emulation station, but its only once I enter the core that I have the problem. Is the all/retroarch.cfg specific to retroarch or is this also to emulation station?

RetroArch only.

I ended up flashing the image (for the 3rd time) and ordering some new controllers and no issues now
