Carbon Light
-
@lilbud Yeah, when it's the default theme. But when I do a theme of my own, I can kinda do what I want. :D Feedback is wonderful, though.

@Rookervik
Regarding hovering boxes, did you know you can set the opacity by using a four-element Hex? So 808080 would translate to 50% grey (at full opacity, which is the default), but 80808080 would translate to 50% grey at only 50% the opacity (source).
This works for all theme elements that have a color of some kind assigned:- image
- text
- textlist
- datetime
- helpsystem
I have not tried this, but I assume you would be able to stretch a 1x1 pixel png into any dimension you want, and then set the color to whatever opacity you please. Maybe something to make the boxes less abrupt?

@Zigurana
Yep! I've used the Alpha hex code in all of my themes. For pixel, the alpha is used on the gamelist bar on the un-scraped systems. It does, in fact, work great! Carbon uses it for the bottom bar to make it a little transparent. And you can use a 2px by 2px white box image and stretch it to any size you want. Give it a <color> and make it transparent. Works wonders.Ah, you meant to try some transparent boxes? They still look doofy, too :( I'm not happy with them.

@Rookervik
Ahh well it was worth a try.
Nonetheless, I really like where this theme is going, keep it up! -
Okay, took a nice long break and made dinner. Working on Game Selection view. Think I got "Basic" view finished. So, getting there. :D
PS, anyone that knows what game the Aegis Shield is from gets bonus points.

@lilbud I hear that some fanatical members of the Cult of Rookervik insist on spelling Rookervik's name with Cs instead of Ks. That just seems silly to me. Roo's Roo. He's still the same villain, no matter how you spell his name.
-
@lilbud LMAO, WTF are you talking about? Hahahaha
-
Theme works fine on 128Mb RAM split. So, yay! :D At least with the 25 systems I have running. Now... why am I getting rainbow power cube the last couple days? I didn't change anything... hmm.
-
@Rookervik looks real nice
-
Just wait til I start throwing blue lines all over the place to chop it up. Hahahahaha. I just haven't made it that far. Wanted to test it on the Pi
-
After a game of Cards Against Humanity and a shower, I got the Gamelist (detailed) section looking like the mock-up. I think it looks good. shrugs
Not sure if I'll put the white hexagon design on the bottom bar like it is in the top bar.
And like the new Carbon, you can change the color of the blue bars to what ever color you like.
Need to try the fancy hexagons like @cyperghost suggested.
-
Awesome idea, but I think I like the less detailed plain hexagons better. Just to make things less complicated-looking.

Wow this one looks gorgeous too!! You're a machine @Rookervik :) you never sleep. You know I'll always complain regarding the small space for the description but all in all it's fantastic Perhaps you could reduce somehow the box-art size and / or move the developer item below the Players item? I can leave without Publisher even if this item will be missed :)))
-
Well, at least you are here to ask for it before the theme is finalized and added to the distribution :P I do plan to make the screenshot smaller in this one. Right now the gamelist is still 100% CarbonV2. I didn't change any of the placement.
Ooh, and speaking of RetroPie menu... that one needs to have all the meta data removed, completely. Just leave the description. /nods nods/
-
Really looks good :)
-
Looks really nice, I think you found a good solución for the game selección screen, lets see if you make me change my pixel theme for this one ;)
-
SO! Does anyone feel like testing out this theme and giving some feedback?
Notes: I chose teal as the theme color for me. You can change it to any color you want with a search-and-replace. I can help with that, later.
In particular, check the logos to make sure they don't go past lines, and check the retropie menu. Remind me to make the metadata not All-Caps. I had that suggestion in another thread and it's a great idea.
Decided to call it Luminous since it's so very not Carbon. LOL
Edits:
- I might remove the side vignette so people using "Slide" behavior won't have to see the dark edges as the system screen scrolls. Check, removing it is so much nicer. :D
- Added support for pipplware

I literally escaped my job to test your amazing new theme :D It works nicely and it's really gorgeous. It's my new default theme from now on and even if the metadata/desc section is still too small to my liking :p On the other hand, I found the boxart to be at the perfect size and perfect location in fact... I'd move the 2-3 lines of metadata somewhere else (below the game list?) to have enough text for the desc and for having enough time to read as the text scrolling is rather fast. I didn't have any issue with RP menu.
Oh one issue though, it seems this theme is less smoother in the transition compared to Carbon. I mean on the carousel when you could pick a system the transition between two is not smooth, it's almost stuttering. The same goes when you select a game with long name, you wait a bit for the text to scroll and when it does it's stuttering as well. I didn't check for my CPU resource but when I switched back to Carbon no more smoothness issue.
perhaps unrelated but while installing this new theme I've updated RP as well then in ES I hit the controller config setup item, register all my buttons and now A and B are switched order :( (before I selected stuff with and cancel with B, now I select with B and cancel with A....).
Thanks a lot for the great job and an absolutely fantastic theme!!

This theme has a lot more graphical elements than Carbon does. So I can definitely believe it will stutter more when sliding between systems. If the stutter is very annoying, you can tell ES to use "fade" behavior instead of "slide."
Would you like me to shrink the box art a little and make more room for description? I can also reduce the font size of the description to make even more room.
