Raspberry Pi 3 B+ released

I notice the specs on the RaspberryPi website has an obsolescence statement saying the Model B+ will remain in production until January 2023. So I suppose it safe to assume there won't be a Pi 4 for at least 5 years.

On the 3B, the output is 17:3020000a if USB boot is enabled. Though I don't know if it's the same value for the 3B+.

That is the Output on my R3 B+ (Out of the Box)... and USB Boot is working fine at least with Raspbian (Stretch).
Though, I don't know why the Stick I just have written the latest RetroPi to doesn't boot (Guess I'll should try it again with the same Media I used with the Raspbian Image).

@ashpool Thanks for your report. I'd also be interested if your boot problems are linked to that particular stick.

If they ever do make a Pi 4 i hope it ends up having support for more consoles like the Gamecube and PS2.

@ecks unfortunately I don't think this will happen. The pi is basically an outdated smart phone for $35. My modern smart phone doesn't run those systems that well. I think we are a long way off from a $35 computer running those systems. I think much more likely is a pi4 that can run most N64, Dreamcast and psp games

my LG G5 is able to play PS2 games pretty good which is a modern phone so who knows maybe we will see that happen if they ever do make a Pi 4.

@clyde Can't say that it was that particular stick :/ The same Stick (Platinum USB2.0 32GB) used for the Raspbian failed, an SD Card that was fine with Raspbian as a Card and via an USB Card Reader failed with RetroPi written to it on that Reader (of course not in the Card Slot), a SanDisk USB3.0 32GB Stick worked. Don't ask me for any commons or cause, at the moment my observations bear neither rhyme nor reason to me.

P.S.: Further Investigations/Discussions of that topic may better be placed outside of this Thread. ...

Hi , after 2 months using your RPI 3B+, does it heat up a lot like its small brother RPI3B ? What is the max temperature you notice ? it could be interresting to know for handheld projects.

The max i have seen people stress test their Pi 3 B+ for was up to 70 degrees without a heatsink and fan and with a heatsink on the Pi was like 2-3 degree less so i find the cooling on it runs better.
I should be getting my 3B+ soon which i am going to have a fan on mine which i have seen it goes as high as 53 degrees.

Hi, thank you for you reply. 65-70°C is too high for me to my handheld projects. I wonder how much degree RPI3B+ is in normal using condiiton with a heatsink? for example in playing PS1 game ? without overclock.

@superpiboy Maybe you can get lower temps from underclocking a pi3b+ from 1400 to 1200. You can also check to see if this heatsink might fight in a handheld https://www.kintaro.co/products/kintaro-custom-heatsink

If he wanted something under clocked why not just stick with the Pi 3 and not the 3B+ then and also that heatsink is designed for the Pi 3 and not the 3B+ since the 3B+ has those 4 additional pins and also the WiFi chip in it does get in the way of it as well which if they do en up cutting it down to fit inside of the 3B+ the thermals would be a little higher more or less around 65 degrees instead of the 62 degrees it shows on there.
