So I'm having issues with my system saving manually edited Metadata when I exit EmulationStation (and maybe this is the wrong forum to post it in). I go to the "Exit Emulation Station" option and exit out, but when I do, instead of getting a command line, I just get a black screen, with a blinking white cursor. Typing in commands does nothing while on this screen.

I can remote access in and do a killall emulationstation command, which will usually cause this screen to kick into a command line, but not before that. I believe it means that emulationstation isn't properly closing? But I'm not sure.

Today, in an effort to get the metadata to save another route, I tried a "restart emulationstation" option, and got the same black screen with white cursor. However, when I did a killall emulationstation command from my remote access, emulationstation started up and went back into the retropie screen. Metadata had not saved.

I'm very, very new at Linux, but am willing to try whatever. I just hope I don't have to reset up everything as it's taken me hours to get to this point. (I'm very happy with my current setup, save missing some metadata and game names that need to be edited.)

Thanks, but that's not the issue. Setting is turned on.

Setting is on, so meta data is saved on exit which can take a long time (hence the flashing cursor as it is saving).

you need to wait for it to finish.

Okay, I'll try to be patient.

if you don't ever scrape your roms it's much faster, but once you have a large gamelist full of meta data, it takes a long time to save (eg to save the last played time, it will have to save a huge file with all the other meta data). One of the downsides of the current xml storage (the unstable branch of ES was to resolve this, but needs some more work still)
