-
Hi There, Im new to retropie and have a bartop with retropie v4 installed. When i try to upate script i get the following error:
"update failed error: your local changes to the following would be overwritten by merge : script modules/suppementary/splashscreen/asplash/asplashscreen"
any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks
-
You performed some changes on the splashscreen module, as such
git
refuses to update. You say you're new with RetroPie - who performed the modifications ? Can you please give more details about your system as requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first ? -
its a bartop system i bought with retropie preinstalled and the maker has his own splashscreen. pi model is 3, retropie version 4.0 -rc1, built from Retropie image as far as i can tell just with added splashscreen. No other devices connected,
Thanks for the reply.

@djlf Putting aside the fact you paid for free software...
You are running a version of RetroPie which is over two years old. If you update you are going to run into all sorts of issues. A lot has changed in that time. A lot.
If your system is running as it should why do you want to update? -
@djlf We don't support 3rd party images, especially the ones sold by scammers like the one that sold you the system. RetroPie is open source and free, it's license stipulates that it's illegal to sell it.

Thanks for the replies guys, as i said im new to all this. In fairness to the person i purchased from, hes far from being a scammer and the system is great quality which im really happy with. Dont have time to build one myself so i guess ill just have to figure it out

@djlf This is how you fix it. In the command line run
cd RetroPie-Setup
then
git reset --hard
This will remove the change that was made preventing it from updating. What else it will do to your system I cannot predict or know.
Then, if you are determined to update just update normally.DISCLAIMER: ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO YOUR SYSTEM WHEN RESETTIING GIT OR UPDATING IS TOTALLY ON YOU
