FBA vs. MAME
-
@andershp try it in the arcade folder. i know you can (optionally) put the neogeo.zip in the bios folder but i’m not sure about other bios files. best to assume everything is in the arcade folder as a starting point.
-
@andershp
I would try :- first in RetroPie/BIOS (exactly like for the neogeo.zip file, so not in the fba subfolder)
- if this doesn't work, just put it in the RetroPie/roms/arcade folder, as suggested by @dankcushions

@andershp said in FBA vs. MAME:
I have pgm.zip in my home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/FBA folder.
fba will search for bios in this order :
- same directory as the rom you are running
- directory pointed by your retroarch
system_directory
variable, if/home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/FBA/
is where you put hiscore.dat and samples, then this is the wrong directory, bioses should go in its parent directory (actually i guess it would be a good idea to check the fba subdirectory where we store hiscore/samples too)
Edit : after my last commit, fba will search
<system_dir>/fba/
before searching<system_dir>/
. Also, there is no caps (same for hiscore, samples, ...), i guess it could explain why you had issues with hiscores in gyruss. -
@andershp The PGM bios needs to be in the Arcade folder if your running roms that require it in Arcade itself. The PGM bios needs to be in the parent folder in order for the games to run.
-
Thanks all, the games boot now, I wasn't aware the BIOS files shouldn't be in the fba folder. By the way, the fba folder isn't CAPS (my bad), so I still don't know why I have hiscore issues in various fba games.

Thanks for adding <system_dir>/fba it will be nice to move the files into a system directory subfolder.

@andershp Whatever folder you have have a rom in that requires the PGM bios..it has to be present in that emulator folder along with the rom. Glad you got it sorted !

But it's not in the rom folder, it's in the BIOS folder now, and working. Are you referring to my hiscore issues? Could these be related to the bios files, and does this mean that I need to have 6 "games" in my arcade folder that's not games but really just bios files?

Has anyone gotten NBA Hangtime (nbahangt) to work? I tried the correct version of the ROMs with each mame2003, mame2003+ and fba. Both mames run teh game but without sound and fba doesn't launch.

Considering fba doesn't support this game, it seems you are lying so perhaps really try with the correct roms.
-
@barbudreadmon You are correct. I downloaded the 2.97.42 FBA set from
[Removed]
when it was there and nbahangt.zip is included. I am now DL'ing 0.2.97.43. I DL'd the mame2003 reference set from a very common location and know it is a good set.Regardless, the question stands. Is NBA Hangtime working in mame2003?
-
Just saw this note in the mame2003 compatibility list: game plays fine yet sound is barely audible
Hoping this is corrected in mame2003+.
-
@johnodon No mention of ROM sharing sites, please.
-
you need to go to service mode and put the volume up
@johnodon not sure why its not just nbahangtime other midway games seem to be gone from fba now dont know what the reason is
-
@grant2258 @johnodon those games were never in fba, we don't remove games.
-
@barbudreadmon rampage used to be in fba im sure it was
-
@grant2258 my bad, i should have said lr-fbalpha : https://github.com/libretro/fbalpha#i-cant-launch-killer-instinct-rampage-mortal-kombat-3-and-other-midway-games-why-
-
@barbudreadmon they seem to not work in the mainline anymore either didnt realise the drivers where buggy. At least i know now was wondering why they vanished
-
@grant2258 the author of the driver never finished the work (iirc there were various graphical issues + no sound) and has been away for a few years, i guess having this driver included in standalone releases was probably never intended.

Like I said earlier, if I ever had to do another emulation "box," I'd look into using a x86 solution where I could just use the latest MAME and be done with it and also be assured whatever other emulators used would run better than on any other platform.
I just now caught this blurb. I have been running RP on an x86 platform for months now. It never even dawned on me to run a current mame version. :-\
