White Noise on the home menu
-
as an adult experiencing the repurcussions of years of loud punk rock music, like Archer I have Tinitus, im sure im not the only one who likes having white noise in the background all the time. Itd be cool to add that as one of the options on the emulator screen. Im sure this would be pretty easy to setup, it could have its own folder in the roms folder and just use mp3s or m4as or wavs or anything. would anyone know of a good place to point me to where I could find out
- alter the emulationstation screen to add a new menu option
- modify the theme to add new artwork for it in the main menu (i currently use scv720(i think thats what its called) but im sure doing this to one would be very similar to any of them)
- how to setup a basic python script that would play a random music file from a specific folder.

- You'd need to program ES to add a new option to the menu.
- There's an Emulation theme tutorial in the Docs.
- There are a few scripts adding background music while ES is active - see for instance https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/347/

thanks for the links, when you say "program ES to add a new option to the menu", I know how to edit the es_systems.cfg to add kodi to the main menu, and make an executable shell script in the roms folder for it, is it as simple as that to add anything?

No, that's not it. When I'm thinking of the 'Emulationstation menu', I'm thinking of the menu shown when you press
Start
on your controller and that's basically programming. However that not be what you're after - maybe you just need a simple script to start a command an an entry in Emulationstation that you can just press to start that command.
