      Hi.

Having several hundreds dos games of variable quality I still want to add lots of games to Retropie. I have picked a few fun games and created a config file that goes with it. The only things that the config file holds is a changedir command to the right directory and the executable that starts the game. Adding about two dozens of games I started wondering. How difficult could it be to create an assistance tool to create those config files a bit quicker.

Since most of the config files for DOSBox are very similar I was thinking of a tool that:

      • Set location where the games are stored for scanning.
      • Location is also used to mount drive c to this location.
      • Scans the directory names for the config files per game.
      • Scans the same directory structure but then in 8.1 format for changedir command.
      • Set default location of the where the config file should be stored.
      • Use the directory names for naming the game config files.
      • Scans per directory which executable are present. Like Exe, Com, Bat, etc.

Some additional ideas for batch creating.

      • Skip executables like INSTALL.EXE or SETUP.EXE.
      • Dumps a config file in the pc rom directory for every game.

Additional tweaks per game for advanced users.

      • Maybe tweaks per game. Not sure what is configurable in a game.conf file.
      • Location of a bin or iso if a game is cd based to mount a extra drive letter.

Maybe some one can help me in the right direction. How to create something like this. Maybe some one with the knowledge can make this in 5 minutes. I have no idea.

      Thanks.
