      So I went to the retropie update option told update to the newest packages, did that fine, reboot;

      Suddenly asking for a login in basic text...

      I didn't change the login, so I went with the default pi, rasberry; it says the login is inccorect. What gives!? What's the default login after the update!? Why did it change the previous default login; why is it asking for one!?

        Hi @3DMaster

        Can you try filling in the form in the read this first post, so we know what your exact setup is, which version of retropie you are running, etc.?

          @3DMaster Unfortunately that's a Raspbian update that disables the auto-login - previously reported here. You can find the solution in that topic, but it's enough to login to the system, then use sudo raspi-config and re-enable auto-login to console.
          No update will change your password (either an OS or RetroPie update), so make sure you're typing it correctly (i.e. is raspberry not rasberry).

              @mitu I can't login, that's the problem. If I could login I probably would have been able to figure it out myself; but I can't login.

              Username: pi
              Password: rasberry

              Login inccorrect.

              I tried it with the first letters capitalized; that nets the same result.

                I'm going to have to format the microSD and reinstall RetroPie from scratch, aren't I?

                  @3DMaster reread what @mitu wrote above. You are spelling raspberry wrong.
