I really love tronkyfran's theme. However, I am running on a rasberry 3 pi and its too much for it to handle. I can set my boot/config.txt to 720p and it works. However, I hate my tv switching modes to play games. Is there a way to convert tronkyfran's theme images to 720p while in 1080p? Is it as simple as resizing his images in photoshop?

@Superdude yep you have to optimise the images down to 720p. Can be done in gimp or photoshop or there are several online tools as well (at varying degrees of functionality)

When I finish the conversion and test it, should I post a copy? Or can I give you the copy and you decide? I'm sure others may want.

@Superdude i havent seen his theme, but you may want to turn off antialiasing and set to pixelated mode in whatever paint program you use to maintain the original look and not make it blurry

@Superdude You could also run the images through an image compression program. It can make the image over 50% smaller (in file size, not dimensions) with little to no loss of image quality. There are also online tools. I've been using this one and it works really well (it was just the first google result when I searched for "shrink image file size").

Image file-size isn't too important once an image is applied to the graphics surface. Take an SVG for instance. A 1kb SVG, when stretched to full screen, can white-screen a 128MB ram split Raspberry Pi ES, all by itself. No matter how compressed, or how raw an image is, it is loaded into VRAM as raw image data. It cares nothing about how compressed an image is.

@tronkyfran I still prefer the 1080p images as I run it on pc, and then we can maybe have a 720p optimised version for the pi. (I haven't had much time lately with moving and jobs etc either so don't feel to bad :) )

Did you guys want me to upload my conversion? I am just having problems with 2 systems. The screen comes up as white in the background. Not sure why. The filenames are correct in the xml.

Does this 720 trick finally work or is still getting white screen issue in RPis?

I'm fairly sure it runs without so many issues at 720p, its 4x reduction of memory usage. We should ask Superdude to upload his version, and I should ask myself why I wont upload the 720 and 1080 versions since the beginning of the proyect.... :D

it should work but @Superdude's last post says it doesn't... @tronkyfran don't worry about not uploading both versions, your work is excellent and it is enough for you, downgrading images to 720 is a piece of cake using image editors. If it works I don't mind uploading as a theme repo to github, so anyone with a raspberry can use it. Everybody with a raspberry MUST use it since these are the best artworks I have ever seen.

You'll still run into issues if your systems surpass 10 or 15. All of "Simple" theme's wallpapers are 720p and cause the white screen when you have a bunch of systems.

And a white screen in a particular system means that system's XML has an error in it, somewhere. Look for unclosed tags... <image></image>, font sizes that are 0, loading a font that doesn't exist, a tag that is not correct for a specific element, and many, many other things.
