Video screensaver displays "Mega Drive" as system on MD/Genesis titles even when platforms.cfg has been created to display elsewhere as Genesis. Is there a solution to this?

I am referring to the "show game title" option available for the video screensaver

I see, so that is actually generated by ES, but since the real ROM folder/system name is still megadrive (genesis is just a symlink), the system name that's added is obviously MegaDrive.
I don't think there's a solution to that, but maybe an ES dev might have a different opinion.

Get rid of the symlink, create a genesis folder, move your roms and videos and fix up the es_systems.xml if needed, I would imagine?

I will do that, but I am guessing this causes things to potentially be overwritten and need re-writing each time the things are updated? That's fine, but just checking. I am also guessing I will need to go undo the "new way" to display Genesis instead before doing so.

@rc_cola you can make a copy of your es_systems.cfg and place it here:

            /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation

ES looks for the file here first. You can make manual changes to the file and it won't get updated. That way when you update it won't overwrite your changes. You will have to manually update it though with any future changes.

Thanks. I just tried this and it works well.

I previously had changed my default MD/Genesis emulator to lr-genesis-plus-gx, as it started on picodrive (not sure why, compatibility with pi 1/2/zero?)

As long as I don't change the path for the emulator call in my custom es_systems.cfg file, just the names and the roms folder, it will still reference the .cfg file in the /opt/retropie/configs/megadrive/ folder when checking which emulator to launch, correct? As that's where I changed it.

That will work. When you update it tries to recreate the symlink, so on first reboot after an update you will need to delete the created folder. Otherwise there are 2 genesis folders and it will crash to the terminal.

@rc_cola I don't think you have to change the name of the rom folder. I think as long as you change the name in the platform section.

@RC_Cola The screensaver displays the fullname value from es_systems.cfg. You should be able to edit es_systems.cfg to set it to whatever you want it to display.

Thank you for this. Made things more consistent on my setup and this was - by far - the easiest way I have found to fix the issue.

Hey, i wanted to ask a somewhat related question: what could be the reason that my screensaver never plays genesis snaps when the screensaver is running? Every system i have on my retropie 4.4 makes an appearance as a random video screensaver and it doesnt matter if the snaps are located within the emulationstation folder or in the rom folder for the system itself. I'm just puzzled as to why my genesis games don't show it. Would it have anything to do with having changed all mentions of megadrive to genesis within emulationstation and this having borked whatever emulationstation looks to when seeking random videos?
