What speed is required for psx roms over network
-
Hi all,
I'm currently alterering a few things within my setup.
I run currently run a pi 3 with the 4.4 retropie image all upto date.
I have been running a plex server on the same setup for a while but I've just got a new hard drive and have connected it to my router for network access.
I'm thinking of running psx and Sega CD roms from the network drive but have a couple of questions first.
First question is how do i go about using the retrorama kodi main menu within emulationstation as I'm swapping all my media over to kodi and pointing kodi to my hard drive attached to my router.The 2nd question is regarding network speeds.
I've mounted the network drive to retropie and all works well but if I use WiFi instead of Ethernet, if I move my pi to the conservatory the speed can half from 10mbps (max Ethernet speed for pi3) to 4-5mbps (WiFi speed).Is this fast enough to run CD based roms over my network.
I always use Ethernet where possible but some rooms in the house it's just easier to plug it in and use it over WiFi.
Would it just make game loading longer or will it cause problems.
Thanks in advance

The PSX had a 2x CD-ROM drive, so 0.3MB/s (I assume you mean 4-5 MB/s not 4-5 microbits/s), so transfer speed should be a none issue, now whether network congestion or latency become an issue is another question. I suspect it would be fine, but since it would depend greatly on your personal setup you will want to test to make sure.

@jakejm79
Cool thanks for the speedy response.
Suppose I'll just give it a try over the Xmas period.
Don't suppose you know how to get the kodi main menu to show that comes with @lipebello retrorama theme do you.
Thanks
Rob
