Roms wont load onto retropi

my steps:
- plug blank usb into retropie
- retropie downloads bios, roms, and slashscreen files
- then i copied roms into right console folders
- then i put usb back into pie and waited for light to stop blinking
- then i rebooted retropie but none on the games were there just the retropie settings screen
If anyone can help me with this issue i would greatly appreciate it.
Is there another method to download roms?
