      Hi,

I've played around with RetroPie loads in the past, but have just got around to doing a new install on my Pi 3+, however, it seems to be taking 30-40 seconds to load a rom (any rom, Snes, Mega Drive and Male tried so far), where before it used to take a matter of a few seconds?

I updated all my packages yesterday, so everything should be up to date?

      Am I missing something?

      Thanks,

That's not right, how is your system set up ? Did you use the RetroPie image from retropie.org.uk/download ? Are your ROMs on an USB or network share ?
Can you add more info about your setup - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

Downloaded direct from RetroPie site (4.4), and flashed to my SD card using Etcher on Mac. Did a full update yesterday via the Pi.

ROMS are stored on my Micro SD Card, copied over using the experimental RetroPie Manager web interface.

No lightning bolts or anything when trying to load, have a 8BitDo SFC30Pro connected via Bluetooth, connected to my Orbi WiFi router.

Is it only the ROMs launch that it's slow or the system as whole seems also slow ? Can you check if you didn't accidentally modified the Runcommand launch delay from the 2 seconds default ? You can use the same menu to disable the Runcommand launch menu altogether and have the game launch immediately.

Just ROM loading. I've tried disabling runcommand, just sits at the black screen for the same amount of time.

I read somewhere that updating the firmware of the controller helps, but I've updated it, with no luck.

@StuMcBill Well, if it's a controller problem (the 8Bitdo) and the timeout comes from it, try pairing it with a different 'mode' (it supports Android/PC/Switch/Mac ?). There was a topic a while ago from people testing various modes and the problems each one has.
I'd try using a different mode to pair the controller (PC/Switch) - remove the current pairing mode and try re-pair while starting the controller in a different connection mode.
