Solved New to retropie with controller issues (Got Logitec 710)
-
The Dualshock 4/3 controllers work great with RetroPie via Bluetooth, 8Bitdo controllers or the Logitech F710 work ok.
-
Xbox 360 controllers with a wireless adapter work perfectly with no special setup. The wireless adapters are $10-15 on Amazon. I have used several different brands and all have worked with no issues.
-
@quicksilver I bought a Xbox controller with the included dongle and it would not even pair with the controller. The green light on the dongle would never come on.
-
@Hoonkawa Xbox 360 or Xbox one? What Xbox 360 controller comes with a dongle?

@Hoonkawa Xbox 360 or xbox one? I have had no issues with any of the Xbox 360 adapters I have used (I've used at least 3 different brands). I've heard the Xbox one wireless adapters are not compatible.
-
@quicksilver I got it at best buy. It says Xbox controller with wireless adapter for windows 10.
-
@Hoonkawa can you post a picture?
-
-
@Hoonkawa Did you update the firmware on the controller, as suggested in the link ?
-
@Hoonkawa this is an Xbox one controller. Afaik the wireless adapter does not work with Linux (I could be wrong). What model is the controller? Can you post a pic of the label inside of the battery compartment?
-
@mitu no I did not. I didnt see that it was needed.
-
@Hoonkawa Some Xbox One Bluetooth controllers need an updated firmware to work, though yours is not Blueooth. The advice was in the link you posted:
- For use with controller compatible games on Xbox One or PCs and tablets running Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 with USB 2.0 or USB 3.0. Significant firmware update may be required. ISP fees apply.
Can you run - from the command line, after you exit Emulationstation:
cat /proc/bus/input/devices
and post the output here ? Your controller might be supported by the
xpadneo
driver (which is not part of RetroPie yet). -
@Hoonkawa I even tried it on a windows computer and the dongle would still not connect to the controller. It may have something to do with the update that mitu mentioned. I would think that the green light on the dongle would still come on. It may be a bad dongle?
-
@mitu I think there is something wrong with this controller other than compatability with retropie. I was thinking of getting the Logitech 710. What are your thoughts on this controller?

@Hoonkawa Should be working fine - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Logitech-Controller/.

@mitu thanks for the input. I will order the 710 from amazon. You have been most helpful, and I appreciate your patience.
