So you created sub-folders for organizing the ROMS, but you'd like to see the games also in the main - parent - folder ?

@stevejp1978 So, why don't you copy the ROMs in the parent folder(s) also ?

just for systems like Apple II and the amiga and the C64, where they have multiple roms for each title

@mitu I would like to see the metadata for the roms while i'm scrolling through folders. Right now I have to enter the folder to see the metadata

@stevejp1978 Emulationstation will only show the contents of the current folder, so that's not going to work. But wouldn't the display be similar if you copied all the games in the main folder ?
If you want to keep things organized in separate folders also, I think you can use a 'hidden' sub-folder (i.e. name starting with a .) and it will not be displayed in the list and you can also just use symlinks to minimize the space used.

@mitu I just want the game to display once, and be able to see the metadata.... what you said sounds like a lot of work lol

@stevejp1978 said in Metadata displaying from folder of roms:

I just want the game to display once, and be able to see the metadata

Then you need to copy all the ROMs in the same folder.

so there's no way to edit the xml list to view the meta data from the folder :(
                        that sucks

@mitu, so i decided to create a extra folder in roms for all doubles and multi disks, and just navigate to that folder when changing disc.... the extra folder stays hidden from retropie and the rom list looks nice and neat, and the metadata displays as i scroll.

@stevejp1978 Had to create an account just to say what a great idea that was. I just did the exact same thing. It was driving me nuts that the folders wouldnt get metadata. Especially when the folder contains 19 files that all have the same metadata
