Previously, RetroPie would automatically log in on the first try. However a couple of days ago a game I was playing froze up and I had to manually shut down the Raspberry Pi. Now whenever I launch RetroPie it times out after the first automatic login attempt:

      retropie login: pi (automatic login)

Login timed out after 60 seconds.
      Stopping Getty on tty1...
      Stopped Getty on tty1.
      Starting Getty on tty1...
      Started Getty on tty1.
      Started Hostname Service

      retropie login: pi (automatic login)

... but on the second or third attempt it goes through successfully. Any idea on what might be happening and/or how to fix this? RetroPie used to start up fairly fast, but now because of the above it's taking forever. My system details are below. I'm new to RetroPie (or rather Raspberry Pi in general) so I apologize if anything below is inadequate/inaccurate:

Pi Model: Pi 3 Model B
Power Supply used: 2.5 Amp USB Power Supply
      RetroPie Version Used: EmulationStation 2.1.5
Built From: Pre made SD Image from https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075ZZ1VLZ/
USB Devices connected: Two iBuffalo Classic USB gamepads (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002B9XB0E/), Wireless keyboard/mouse dongle, USB stick with ROMs
Controller used: iBuffalo Classic USB gamepad
Error messages received: Login timed out after 60 seconds.
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log: No log file exists in this location
      Emulator: EmulationStation
How to replicate the problem: Start up EmulationStation/RetroPie

@sh0wtym3 said in RetroPie Automatic Login Timeout:

This looks like something corrupted on the file system or a service that doesn't start on time. Since we don't support 3rd party images - we don't know which version of RetroPie the seller bundled - and you seem to be using an old version, I advise you to start with a fresh install by using the image provided on retropie.org.uk/download and following the installation docs.

@mitu Okay sounds good, I'll try doing a fresh install as you suggested. Thanks!
