Playing mame games with a better compatibility, e.g. solomon...
-
Hello,
I have found that ~/RetroPie/roms/arcade can old various types of mame games.
However, to play games such as Mame, lr-mame 2000 is not much working.
A great way is to install with retropie-setup the lr-mame2010, and to have as follows ~/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro.Then, if you have ~/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/solomon.zip, and then select by default (press while loading ncurses window popup) lr-mame2010, then your games (mame) will work.
This can allow to play much more games (mame) and they are located into mame-libretro, which allows to select lr-mame2010.
If mame-mame4all, then, you can have issues with gamepad keys with lr-mame4all.
Best:
- mame-libretro
- lr-mame2010 (to be added).
Have fun.

@spartrekus there are a lot of philosophies about THE right MAME-Port with the Raspberry Pi.
I am using a combination of AdvanceMame and FBNeo - and think its great.
Others have other ideas and so on....
Yours is a bit irritating for me to be honest.
It's nothing special or new on the fact that you can choose the emulator when you drop roms in the Arcade-Folder.
And i am pretty sure that you can even get better results with even more Arcade-Emulators installed than the two that you mentioned.
Just my 5 Cents.... -

for neogeo, it works flawlessly, almost all games by default.
I placed them neogeo into ~/RetroPie/roms/neogeo,
sidekick 1,2,3
metal slugs,...

for lr-mame2010.
solomon
aliens3
mk1

maybe we could try to make a compatibility list for
mame mame2010 ?there is github for uploading files in order to keep up to date a compatibilty list of mame files, and sharing infos about it:
- here for lr-mame2010
metal slug works
golden axe 1 and 2
knight with lancelot, arthur,...
nemo
3wonders
turtles in time 4 players
simpsons 4players
in progress.
I have feeling that there is much more mame games that work.
Killer instinct 1 maybe.... too.
http://www.patricklewis.net/ has cool images, showing games.

maybe we could try to make a compatibility list for
mame mame2010 ?There is a list already distributed with the emulator (.dat) that lists what games are supported by the emulator. If you mean to test the compatibility with a Raspberry Pi system, there is already a list created that can always be improved.

@spartrekus just mentioning this, all the games you mentioned (bar one : golden axe 2) also work with lr-fbneo. They might even be better emulated in some cases (i assume "knight with lancelot, arthur,..." is knights of the round, a cps1 game, which is unarguably more accurate in FBNeo), and at the very least should allow proper readahead support if you are ever interested in reducing input lag.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
