White Screen when booting ROM (Time Killers) in RP3+
-
@common763 maybe you are using something like readahead ? that feature is not 100% safe depending on game and emulator, i don't know its state for this game in mame2003 though.
On a sidenote, support for this game (and other games from the same system) was added in january 2019 for FBAlpha (now FBNeo) -
@barbudreadmon Not sure...every other game works. It looks like it is booting up, and something is but just a white screen. I can try the FB version and see what happens.

@arcadez2003 MAME 2003 using Rom set Mame 78 (everything else plays prefectly with this combo outside of my FBA files which I use that emu for).. I didnt change anything and it ran when I played a few months back. Now just a white screen.
Ah ok reason i asked is Time Killers is an Itech 32 game and me and @grant2258 had made a few changes in MAME2003 Plus when adding support for the Golden Tee 3D golf
games, the fact your using MAME2003 means our changes could not be a possible reason for Time Killers not working anymore, as @barbudreadmon mentioned these games
are now playable in FBNeo although it's worth noting all the Itech 32 games have speedups in MAME2003 so might perform better depending on what system your using. -

Yeah, not sure how the FBNeo driver for those games performs on slow devices. If mame2003plus includes some speedhack about them, then they probably need something kinda fast.

Any MAME build which supports the Itech 32 games upto version 78 will have the speedups which are sound based, but obviously what you gain in speed in the old cores
quite often you lose in the emulation dept, so if performance is not a problem your better using FBNeo as the code is newer alotta the emulation problems will have been
ironed out. -
@arcadez2003 I am confused because it was working perfectly a few months back and I have wifi blocker so nothing would update. Now the screen is just white. Where can I get an FBA copy of this game? The site I go to doesnt list it.

Well if nothing has updated with your setup then as you say there is no reason the game should not still be working unless you changed some settings somewhere.
you could maybe try deleting the cfg and nvram files for Time Killer as maybe they got corrupted and are causing the game to fail on boot. -
@arcadez2003 that is a good suggestion. I dont think I changed anything but will give that a go. Do you know where I can get an FBA copy of this or is that not allowed on this forum? Apologies if the latter. Thanks.

The rom should be the same as any recent MAME version.
-
@barbudreadmon The ROM is the same. It is MAME 78 running off MAME 3000. It isnt running. I will have to look further into why it isnt running properly. It does boot up though but white screen only. Will try clearing out anything that may have saved.
-
@common763 I don't understand what you are saying, the FBNeo rom (which is the same as latest MAME version of this rom, and definitely different from MAME 0.78) must be run with FBNeo. I don't know what's MAME 3000.

Hi there common763. I decided to tackle this one and can confirm the game indeed does work in mame2003. I can obviously tell you meant 2003 and 3000 was a typo. I would recommend you update the binary from the retropie setup.
Im not sure if you roms are in RetroPie/roms/arcade or RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro either way there will be a directory in there called mame2003 clear the contents of cfg and nvram and let us know how you go on.
-
@grant2258 yes meant 2003. I did what you and Arcade suggested. I cleared config/nvram and updated binary. rebooted and game worked fine. It had to be the clearing that fixed it. Thanks all. Appreciate it. Going forward will do that first when having issues.
-
@common763 glad you got it sorted mate. If you want to play this on fba neo @barbudreadmon is saying you will need the most recent rom for it from current mame if you want to try it out with on that
-
@grant2258 appreciate it. my setup is pretty much good to go. I have all my neo geo on FBA, and depending on the arcade game a mix between FBA and Mame3000. Thanks again. Have a great day!
