@Dipkid I'm officially flabberghasted, sir! 😮
-
I went ahead an ordered the NEW BittBoy and it arrived today. I gotta say, it’s not all bad. Just a few gripes with it, one being no rom artwork and the other only being three emulators supported. But other than that, its a rad little guy. And it looks great with the originals.
-
Pick-ups have been slow because games that I'm after seem to be getting more expensive, but I did receive some mail from Japan today.
ミスタードリラー2 (Mr. Driller 2)
Now if only I could find the US versions of Mr. Driller games for not crazy prices to go along with their Japanese counterparts.
-
I think the fun in game hunting is to get the desired game for the best, in most cases as cheap as possible, price.
If you would have the cash you could just buy all games out there and be done with it within few days but that's not fun.
To get an expensiv(er) game for a very decent price is a very nice achievement and therefore the joy is greater.
The downside of it is it takes time, lot more time. -
@FlyingTomahawk I guess that's true. It can be frustrating when you see someone say "I got this game for $3 from an old lady at an estate sale" and then you see it selling for $700 online. With EverDrives I can play pretty much anything, so I'll just keep my eyes open.
-
I've been thinking about getting some of the old FDS handbills/flyers to frame. @FlyingTomahawk are they commonly reproduced or are the ones I'm seeing on eBay likely legit? Of anyone on this site I figured you may have actually seen some in person.

Last month I picked up an NES Advantage for cheap that was yellowed and nasty. Gave it a good clean and decided to retr0bright it up. After several applications it did brighten up the plastic but, in turn left streaky marks all over it. I did some reasearch and after watching an 8bit Guy restore video, I then tried the submerging in liquid peroxide method. 9 hours of underwater bathing in the sun and it really helped. It may not be perfect and some streaks just won’t come out, however its a hellova lot better than how it was when I first got it.
-
@celly I think I saw the same video from "The 8bit Guy" where he tested several methods to brighten battered old cases. Although I don't do anything he does with old hardware, he is one of my favorite evening diversions. :)

It's been a while since I posted any pickups. Here's some interesting stuff I've added to my collection in the last few months.
A Wii U!
Puyo Puyo Sun for Game Boy Color

@obsidianspider The Wii U is actually a really great system. You have access to the entire Wii catalog as well.
Maybe you should hack it...wink wink

@obsidianspider
I love 'Decap Attack'. I actually had the Japanese version - 'Magical flying turbo hat adventure' but I really like the characters in Decap Attack (my friend had Decap Attack and I was a bit jealous.)As @lilbud said the Wii U is great. A lot of the games are now on Switch but there are some that either work better with the Wii U game pad or haven't been ported to the Switch at all - some can't be ported as they rely on the gamepads second screen. I personally haven't bought a Switch yet as there aren't enough games on it that I don't already have on the Wii U (that may change when the new Luigi's Mansion comes out as I love the original.)
If you don't already have it make sure you get 'Nintendo Land', it makes excellent use of the Gamepad for multiplayer games. Pretty much all the first party games on it are great so you have some fun times ahead.

Here's my Wii U game collection, there are a few more I'd like but I have the majority of the games I'm interested in owning for the system. -
@lilbud No plans for CFW just yet.
@ruckage The Wii U was the Mario 3D World/Nintendo Land edition, and even after a reset they stayed on there. Both are fun, but I plan to get physical copies for my collection at some point.
Decap Attack is pretty much the final form of Kid Kool. (The same game mechanic is in Psycho Fox and Magical Hat) I want to get a boxed copy of the Famicom version. I’m also looking for a complete copy of Psycho Fox and also Magical Hat. Magical Hat is pretty expensive and boxed copies of the Japanese version of Kid Kool don’t show up often.
-
@ruckage Very nice. Since I got mine a few weeks ago I’ve picked up a handful of games. I don’t really consider them retro so I left them out of this post. I’ll snap a photo later when I get home.

When I got Magical Hat it was dirt cheap, I remember buying it from a video rental store which had imported loads of Japanese Games that they were selling at a bargain price. Because the cart wouldn't fit into a UK Megadrive my Dad modified the cart for me by sawing off part of the shell (I know, terrible thing to do - but we didn't know any better at the time).

Yeah, it's not really retro but definitely last gen. I don't think it feels out of place here anyway as it was such an overlooked system and I bet a lot of people have never even played on one.

@ruckage this is what I’ve managed to find for my Wii U. Breath of the Wild came with the Wii U when I bought it from my friend. The others have been mostly local pickups from various Walmarts on clearance. Yoshi was expensive, but I’m ok with what I paid.
-
@ruckage I bought a Switch for Mario Odyssey. The Wii U has so many great games that people wouldn't know about because they were on Wii U.
Just give me a Mario 3D World switch port. Please and thank you.
Also, Wii U took with it free online multiplayer and virtual console.
@obsidianspider Paper Mario Color Splash is actually a really good game and it gets a lot of shit. Not like other Paper Mario games, but as its own thing, its great.
So many laugh out loud moments.
-
@lilbud I have a list of about a dozen or so more games that I'd like to get physical copies for. Some are super cheap (I snagged Zombi U for $1 and Rayman Legends for $5 plus shipping this week), and others are crazy, like Twilight Princess HD with the amiibo selling for around $80. Considering I've had a Wii U for less than a month, I think I'm doing OK.

That looks like a great start to your collection, I have the Yarn Yoshi pack as well but mine is unboxed unfortunately but I got it really cheap. You have a few there I don't have and I didn't even realise Giana sisters was released as a physical disc on Wii U. Make sure you get Paper Mario, it had mixed reviews but I really enjoyed it. Kirby and the Rainbow curse is also really good though you tend to focus entirely on the gamepad as you play it using the stylus.

Mario Odyssey looks great and is almost enough to make me buy a Switch but not quite, once Luigi's Mansion and Metroid get released though that could be the tipping point for me. I don't have Breath of the Wild on WiiU either as I'm saving that for when I inevitably get the Switch.
I'm quite surprised they haven't released Mario 3D world on the switch yet but I'm equally surprised that they haven't made HD versions of the Mario Galaxy games yet. -
Going back to more retro systems, here's my Game Boy/Game Boy Advance collection. I had some of these for a long while but I've bought a lot this past year. Most are unboxed without manuals as it's just cheaper but I do have some complete in the box and others just with the manuals. So far I've managed to avoid buying fakes from ebay, luckily it's pretty obvious most of the time from the photos as the labels are often wrong and they never get the case moulding right.
I've also been making custom cases for them using EU NDS Cases, it' will take me quite a long a while as the ones available online tend to be designed for US NDS cases plus they are usually stretched and not the best quality so I've been creating mine from scratch.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
