Are you using the accelerated video player in Emulationstion (omxplayer) in Emulationstation ? Switch it off and restart ES, then try again to see if videos are shown.
Also, when opening a support topic, please provide the info asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first to know which release/version/system type are you using.

I hanv'nt used my pi for the longest time. Used to work fine. it's really giving me greef now. THe acceleration in the menu when presing start in the menu menu of retro pi makes the video's not work, when off it just shows a black screen.
Is there a option in another setting i should change to fix my problem?
When i get home im going to try another source with the scraper. I couldn't find skyscraper last night. ill see if i can find more info about it.

just tried the pc engine section with skyscraper. Now it works. I used italia site with the Selph's Scraper and it was messed. I hope the arcade games scrap ok cuz i deleted the old one's and started scraping with skyscraper. It does take alot longer. probably all night.

ok this is getting on my nerves. it works fine with other consoles but for arcade, using a final burn neo set.
I tried reformatting my sd card then putting fresh retro pi. It still won't show the video's. With hardware acceleration it doesn't play the video at all. THe pc engine cd games seem to play fine. whats going on?
Where does skyscraper place the video's. the box art displays fine. THe last time i scraped i extracted the video and it played fine on the computer.
I used the arcadedb database this time. and still.

The hardware accelerated video player doesn't like the videos from the Arcade collection, there's a known issue with those videos - the video codec is not compatible with omxplayer. Search the forum for similar topics, there are a few scripts that convert the videos to a compatible format.

@mitu it's pritty old. im surprised it hasn't been fixed yet.
Got a exact link of the script?
Also where are the video's located for skyscraper? Do i extract then re-encode then put them back then varify..
I found a topic and they used a program called handbrake. don't know what settings to change

Given that omxplayer uses the hardware decoding support, it's not going to be easy to 'fix' the hardware.

Got a exact link of the script?

Here is one such script - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/15764/script-retropie-convert-videos.

However, before going on the conversion path, why don't you use the built-in video player ? It also has - as of last November - hardware acceleration for videos that are supported by the PI's GPU.

Ok i saw that peaple had luck with screenscraper site. Damm it's slow site. It stoped responding so many times. Im triing it now with the username in. Hopfully it doesn't stop again.
Well it was working then one's that got scraped then i was scrolling down and saw some that did the same thing. ohh well.
Looking thru the folders using WinSCP i noticed skyscraper is located at /opt/retropie/configs/all/skyscraper/
Do i just copy the the cache folder and copy it to a new image when the time comes? will that work so i don't need to scrap them. Or do i put it in the import folder? It will save time then rescraping everything.
Ill prob convert the all the video's if i can do them all at once. There are over 5000 arcade games.

You should really read the docs on Skyscraper - especially the part about the cache.
