I need a way to get two usb snes controllers to act as one game pad, then to be able to switch back to two controllers again easily. Controllers are innext wireless usb snes controllers and I am using a pi 2 b.

It's not available in RetroPie, but you can try something like MoltenGamepad for a general re-mapping solution.
