RetroPie x86 install wont launch
-
Hi there!
I would like to install the x86 version of RetroPie on a NUC device. I have followed the directions on the website, everything installs good, no errors. When I try to launch RetroPie it opens for just a moment then closes. No error.
If I try to launch from CLI I get this error
lvl0: Error - File type unknown! emulationstation: /home/mediabob/EmulationStation/es-core/src/resources/Font.cpp:17: Font::FontFace::FontFace(ResourceData&&, int): Assertion `!err' failed. Aborted (core dumped)
I am not sure if I am missing something. I followed all steps from the website.
Here is the information for the system I am trying to install on.
Thank you!

@mediabob This usually happens when Emulationstation's resources have not being copied to the right place. Did you install the whole RetroPie system or just Emulationstation ?
You'll have to copy theresources
folder to the runtime dir or to$HOME/.emulationstation

@mitu o, I followed directions exactly as stated, and I did the Basic Install from the setup menu.
I went to look for this resources folder, and I noticed there is no EmulationStation folder in my Home directory. I have the .emulationstation but not EmulationStation.
I look in retropie setup to install Emulatio Station and it says that it is installed so I try uninstall and reinstall, no good.
Last I seen another post point to Git of Emulation Station so I follow steps to install it. Works good. Still won't launch, then I copy resources folder to the .emulationstation folder and it worked!
Lastly, doing something else I noticed EmulationStation folder exists in root as well, so this must be the one the RetroPie installer created and put in wrong place?
Either way it works now!

I don't understand why you think there should be an
Emulationstation
folder in you $HOME after you install the package through the RetroPie-Setup - the installation folders for all packages are in/opt/retropie
. After installation, you should be able to start Emulationstation using theRetroPie
shortcut (.desktop
) file added by the installer.
