      Hi:
So I tempted fate again. I installed RetroPie for Ubuntu on Linux Mint 18.

      No issues! It ran fine.

I did the update and bam! MAME no longer works and the list has dozens of duplicate names in the list.

Any ideas? I can of course uninstall and re-install. I just was curious if it would break again.

      Thanks,
      BC

So I tried to uninstall the program via the retro pie script.

        No GO.

I was wondering is there are leftover files even when you do the uninstall taht would prevent a real re-install of the program?

        Thanks,
        BC

            Hello Again:

            • I ran the uninstall script for RetroPie.

            • Rebooted.

            • Attempted to re-install RetroPie using the same Retropie-setup folder that still existed in my home dir.

            • The same issues occurred. A game from any systems would try to open only to close immediately.

            • I ran the uninstall undefined script for RetroPie.

            • Rebooted.

            • Rather then just go back in after a reboot and run the Easy Install script I deleted the retropie-setup folder from inside the home dir folder.

            • I then followed the Ubuntu Retropie set from the beginning.

            • Now all the MAME, NES, SNES, and Sega games load fine.

Any ideas? Not running the update scripts again unless it helps something.

            thanks,
            BC

            IT works now.

Assuming you are installing from git so you have the very latest RetroPie-Setup ?

              • The same issues occurred. A game from any systems would try to open only to close immediately.

To debug this - choose a specific game on a specific system. launch it and post the output from /dev/shm/runcommand.log after it fails

              • I ran the uninstall undefined script for RetroPie.

what do you mean by uninstall undefined script ?

Any ideas? Not running the update scripts again unless it helps something.

Not without a log - install/update logs are in RetroPie-Setup/logs - then I would need a log from something failing.

                @BuZz

I am using the instructions from: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/RetroPie-Ubuntu-16.04-LTS-x86-Flavor#section-22-installation

I do the install and I do not have any issues. It works great. Then I get the urge to run the update script when I am in the setup. When I do this something changes and no roms will load from then on.

The undefined script message is a mistake. It happened when I mis-edited a bullet on here. See if I just click the bullet icon at the top of the editor I get this. So it was a typo.

                • undefined

If I get the urge to run the update script again this afternoon I will get you the log files.

                Thanks!

I run it on my ubuntu setup myself, and have not seen any problems when updating - so I would be interested in knowing what went wrong.
