Hi to everyone I have a keen interest in retro gaming most in 8bit, 16bit and arcade games.
I'll greatly appreciate if someone can advice me. Since that the Rasberrypi 4 has been recently out with over heating CPU and it has a problem with the PSU plus USB-C charging issue and Retropi has not yet been released for the Rpi4. I am wondering whether I should purchase the Rpi3 instead until the Rpi 4 version 2 is released.

For now, support for RPI4 has not been added to RetroPie. If you want to start your project now (or in the next weeks), then you should get a RPI3 (3B+ model) and get accustomed with RetroPie.
BTW, the PI4 has no problem with the USB-C charging - as long as you're using the official charger, which we always advise with a RPI. The only 'problem' is with 3rd party USB-C chargers, as they have a high chance of not working with the PI4.

@mitu I heard an unofficial Retropi has been released for the Rpi4 still being tested but works with low end games. From my end I don't have a large interest in 3 d games.

Could be, but if it's not being released by the RetroPie team, then it's not supported here.

@mitu I am wondering whether within 4 weeks Retropi will be available for the Rpi4?

Would you mind letting me know which PSU should i buy for the Rpi3 for connecting an external WD 2.5 HDD?

                I don't think so.

The official RPI power supply for the model you buy is always the best bet.

If you have no interest in any "3D gaming" then your best bet is the Pi 3B+. It's extremely reliable and the support is outstanding. I can get nearly all systems to run quite well, up to and including, Playstation 1 emulation which was considerably more powerful than any 16-bit console up to that point, barring a couple. If you're planning on emulating systems like the NES, SNES, Genesis, Master System, etc from the late 1980's to the mid to late 1990's then the 3B+ will do everything you'll ever need it to.

Like I said, the support for this model is outstanding here. I have nearly zero knowledge of the intricacies of any version of Linux and I was able to get the OS installed and my system running with very little trouble. Just make sure you follow the instructions. All systems after installation will require a period of time for you to acclimate yourself to the OS, RetroArch, Emulation Station and the many settings and options you'll have to browse and fiddle with to get everything right where you want it.

Each game can have custom options through RetroArch and the amount of control given to the end-user is fantastic. I truly commend the RetroPie team for all their hard work.
