      Download RetroPie is v3.8.1 for the RPi3 and I was able to get the Xbox 360 receiver (using xpad driver) with one controller working after configuring the buttons.

      Decided to install kodi via the experimental packages and would like to use the xbox controller for navigation. The controller appears to be detected but the sensitivity is way too high, every d-pad movement registers multiples.

      Do I need a joystick.xml file in the kodi userdata folder to solve this ?

        Odd thing happened with two controllers (one wireless another wired).

        Once I connected a wired XBOX controller via usb MicrosoftX-Boxpadv2(US), Kodi clicks are now normal with the Wireless controller. Confused...

            @joelones

            I have had the same issue in Kodi on two different retropie builds now. both running 4.0-rc1

            d-pad registers multiple moves left and right, and up and down through all menus in Kodi... controller registers just fine in ES and games. All setups using genuine wireless xbox 360 controllers.

            For now I have just used my bluetooth keyboard to move around in Kodi.

            I also just updated tonight to 4.0-rc2 and installed the new xpad driver. LED's now work great in ES and controllers still work perfect in ES & games (thanks guys).

            But, control in Kodi is even worse now with my xbox 360 controllers. With controller turned on, Kodi acts like I am holding the d-pad to the left at all times. I turn off controller and use my keyboard just fine. Turn controller back on and jumps all the way to the left.

            Anyone have thoughts on how I can troubleshoot this?

              I downgraded to 4.1.21-v7+ kernel and blacklisted xpad and enabled xboxdrv driver via the retropie-setup script. Seems to be working better. Gonna keep it like this for now.

                I've got the same issue, using 4.0.2, though the LEDs still not working as in XBOX 360, just circling all the time.
                Has anyone found a solution?

                  I had the same issues with the d-pad registering multiple moves in RetroPie 4.0.1 and to fix it I just bound the left analog stick to movement through the menus and the dpad up & down are for volume and left & right are to seek back & forth through videos.

                  Here's my unfinished /usr/share/kodi/system/keymaps/joystick.Microsoft.Xbox.360.Controller.xml file:

                  As @joelones said, downgrading the kernel and using xboxdrv instead of xpad works as well:
