Lists filtered to favorites by default

Is there any way to make the default view for any system use the Favorite=True filter? I don't want to use the Favorites collection, but would rather have the view for each system show me the ROMs I've marked as a favorite unless I take the extra step of saying "Show me every ROM." So, essentially the reverse of the current default where I have to manually turn the Favorite=True filter on for each system after a restart.

Filters are not persistent between restarts, so at the moment that's not possible.

Correct. You could use kids or kiosk mode to achieve a similar goal, but it's just a workaround.

@mitu Thank you! I think I’ll go the route of just putting my non-favorite ROMs into a separate sub folder within each system then.
Follow up thought: I get that the filters aren’t preserved, but is there a file or flag that is set somewhere once I toggle a filter? Could I (theoretically) write a startup script that populates this after each boot?

No, there is no flag - otherwise it would have been easy to re-add the filter between EmulationStation restarts.
Only the Kid and Hidden are flags (they're saved) and can be used to simulate a 'reduced display' mode, as @pjft suggested. Hidden games are not shown in Kiosk mode, and Kid mode shows only the games tagged as Kid game.
