I understand this is being done on peoples free time

Sounds like you already have your answer. It takes as long as it takes. If you have some skills that could help speed development along feel free to contribute. Otherwise wait patiently for those that have the skills to complete their work.

This comparsion to building a house sucks too IMO.
When you build a house as a professional worker, you do the same things over and over again for years.
Dig a hole, put brick on brick, install some Windows, doors, wires, tubes and so on.
        Same procedure with every house.

Comparing this to the Retropie-Situation it would mean that you have to INVENT doors, windows, wires and so on before you can start the building process.

In 2005, a team of volunteers in Tyler, TX, set a world record building a 2,249-square-foot house in under three hours—hence its name,"2-Hour House."

Interesting, but seems that these fast-houses aren't very good in the end: https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1986-11-29-me-16108-story.html

That's what you want for a quickly-developed RetroPie too?

its unbelievable how hard it is for some people to have a little patience :(

Systems: Raspberry Pi 0/2/3 Model B+
            Os: RetroPie 4.5
            Frontend: Emulationstation & Attract Mode

This comparison is very, very wrong. The Raspberry Pi is a hobby computer that's made to be developed upon, it's not made for emulation or any particular operating system.

The new model is having some radical changes that require more experimentation than anyone expected. In order for libretro to take advantage of the new hardware, many cores need tons of changes.

Even if the team was a part of a paid full-time project, I don't believe that the progress would be significantly better. Everything is being built with care and in order to provide a stable release, patience and understanding is absolutely needed.

Then why don't you try to improve or compile it yourself? All the resources are available. There are also unsupported test releases out there...

All I see is an entitled troll. You contribute nothing to the project or the community and instead come with your hand out like somebody owes you something. Im not sure what you think youre going to accomplish here with an attitude like that.

Entitled or not, free or not, contributed or haven't, at the end of the day all that matters is It’s not done and inexcusable.
