Monitor resolution
-
Hi guys,
Always ran my pi from a tv so this is new to me.
If I buy a pc monitor with 1920x1080, can I run the pi at 1280x720 on this monitor (all my themes are made for 1280x720), my question is....will the monitor display the pi's resolution of 1280x720 ok on this monitor?
-
There's no "pi resolution", a RPI3 can use the display at 1920x1080 without problems. If you want to force the display to run at 720p, then you can tweak the video options in the
config.txt
configuration file to do so. -
Thanks or the quick reply @mitu
Yeh, I normally set the pi's resolution to 1280x720 through advanced settings in raspcfig and it displays at that on my 1080 tv. My question is though, is a pc monitor 'set' at only 1920x1080 if I plug in my pi? or would the monitor adjust to display the 1280x720 as I have set in my config?

I think what I kind of need to know is....if anybody has a pi plugged into a 1920x1080 pc monitor, they then change the resolution to 1280x720 in the pi config - does it display ok? Or does it default back to 1920x1080? …...I think that's the best way to describe what I need to know. :)

@paffley If your monitor doesn't support 720p at all, then of course it won't work. Otherwise, your scenario should work without issues.

Thanks @mitu thats kinda what I needed to know, I'm a bit clueless when it comes to pc monitors and pi's.
