Random Sanwa JLF question
-
Hi so I know this is not Retropie or raspberry pi specific and pretty random but I know a lot of you have built bartops so hoping maybe someone has encountered the same thing. I have had a Sanwa JLF joystick in my bartop for approaching just about a year. We use the bartop every other day to every three days or so for about an hour or two. Something odd has started with one of the joysticks. It will not register left or right sometimes. BUT the oddest part is that if I lift/tilt the control panel upwards at about a 45 degree angle or so, suddenly it starts working. Has anyone had an issue like this before? Is there some sort of maintenance I can perform on the joystick short of having to replace the whole thing? Note that even when it is in the flat position and not working I can still hear all the switches clicking. Thanks for any help.

Ok so this is solved. The good news is at least as far as I can tell the Sanwas don’t go bad after only a year of use. This was a wiring issue with some of the connections I made between the five wire harness and the wires to the usb encoder coming loose, ironically and randomly several at a time. I don’t always supervise the kids’ use of the arcade so it is also possible this wasn’t REALLY random, maybe one of the kids was particularly rough or lifted up the control panel lid and pulled some of the wires. All fixed up now! Now I have a few extra Sanwas for spare parts though! (Only figured out it was a wiring issue once I installed the new joysticks and problem was still occurring...)
