@backstander said in Five favorite ARCADE games available in MAME:

One of the rarest arcade games I've ever played would have to be [Time Traveler]

Before it closed, a local arcade had Holoseum which was a street fighter style fighting game that used the same holographic hardware as Time Traveler. I can still hear some of the sounds in my head ("Drunk monkey!").

@backstander I never played Time Traveler because, if I recall, it was crazy expensive in the arcade when I saw it. As a kid I just watched the attract reel over and over.

              • City Connection
              • Bomb Jack
              • Gauntlet
              • Mr Do!
              • Pang! (Buster Bros. for US)
              • Shinobi

I know, there's 6 and not 5, but I cannot take one off.

@nono6493 Considering your list has both City Connection and Mr Do! on it, you get a pass. XD Those are two great titles. And I still hate that cat.

@langest Was that originally a spinner game? Trackball game? Joystick game? I can't find a picture of the original arcade cabinet right now.

Joystick I believe. I base that on that the tutorial in the game shows a joystick.

I love these threads. I know there is allot of duplication with others but still :)
What would be a good idea is a Desert Island type selection. You only have 5 arcade games for the rest of your life ... now pick :)

It's similar to DonPachi, but you don't need to turn your tv on the side to fit the screen.

@langest It's not in my Top 5, but I definitely play it frequently.

@tpo1990 Those are some great titles.

                                        • I recently put Tapper on my cocktail cabinet and, although I find it a stressful game, it's great to have the "Budweiser" licensed version on my arcade cocktail (tabletop) cabinet.
                                        • Robotron: 2084 is a classic. I'm really glad I got that game working with two joysticks.
                                        • I bought the first "Arcade1Up" cabinet and it includes Rampage, Joust, and Gauntlet! (It also has Defender, but I find the original control scheme tough to use.)

                                          A lot of my favourite games were on the Atari and Amiga, ported from original arcade games. So in no particular order;

                                          Donkey Kong
                                          Pac-Man
                                          Tempest
                                          Bubble Bobble
                                          Rainbow Islands

Remember playing Tempest in the arcade, not having a clue on what I was doing (just spinning the spinner and firing - the equivalent of button mashing) yet managed to get the highest score :-)

Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
Power Supply used: Generic 5v 2.5A Panasonic
                                          RetroPie Version Used : 4.5.1
                                          Built From: Retropie website

@IanDaemon Yes I feel that any arcade owner should at least have those classic titles. Defender is a cool game although I'm not a big fan of it. I also find it hard to use the control scheme.

You could easily mention more than five great arcade games but those are the one that comes to my mind.
