How to Change "Select" Button Labels At Bottom?
-
I've done the button swap trick that RetroPie has built in, and it's made life for me and my kids a lot easier (since you always want to push the first button at the bottom, which happens to be B and not A on my SNES 8Bit Do. But the label is confusing for others. It still says press A to select. Is there a field somewhere I can edit to change this?

It depends on the theme - some of them have this built in. If you're using the default help system (that shows the buttons and their actions), then you can swap the images around.
You'll have to copy the 2 images from/opt/retropie/supplementary/emulationstation/resources/help
to/home/pi/.emulationstation/resources/help
(2nd folder might not exist and you can create it as thepi
user) renamingbutton_a.svg
tobutton_b.svg
and vice-versa. -
Great tip, thanks! I actually just renamed them and copied them back to the original directories, overwriting the files on the Pi, and they worked fine. What was the need for the second directory?

@AlphaBetaPie It's because the 1st folder is the 'system' one, so the files will be overwritten on an upgrade of the package. The 2nd folder is your 'user' folder, which is not modified on an upgrade.

Ah, thanks!
