How could I do this? I'd like to resize the main partition in the SD card to a smaller size with some room for updates, then have a separate NTFS or exFAT partition just for the Roms, so that I can mount it in Windows to transfer files, as otherwise through LAN it's painfully slow.

Use your pc and boot something like System Rescue, then resize the SD card's 2nd partition (Linux). After that, you can add a 3rd partition to the card.

However, my advice would be to get an USB stick and transfer the ROMs with it - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Transferring-Roms/#usb-stick.

I know how to add the partition, but how to make RP take the roms from it, in ntfs? and how large should the system partition be, minimum?

You use the File Manager from the RetroPie system in Emulatonstation and transfer the files.

Ehh that beats the purpose -.- I want to make RP use the 3rd partition for the roms directly, in NTFS or exFAT

My impression is that you'd like it just for transfers. Otherwise, just mount the /home/pi/RetroPie/roms folder from the partition you created and store your ROMs there. Similar to running your ROMs from an USB stick doc page.

Thanks I'll try that, but will that be permanent through reboots?

@Shira If you add it to /etc/fstab, yes - it should behave just like the other SD card partitions.

@Shira See https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Running-ROMs-from-a-USB-drive/#configure-fstab-to-automatically-mount-usb-drive for more information about permanent mounts via /etc/fstab.
