Hotkey plus Select sets in-game audio to -80

Hello everyone! I am completely new to RetroPie and have very little experience with things like this. I chose another key to use for the Hotkey (other than select) when initially setting up my system. While in a game (Mame emulator, Pac-Man) I inadvertently pressed my chosen hotkey and the select button together and a small message in yellow print popped up at the bottom left of the screen that simply said "Audio Volume: " and after that was a negative number. Each time I pressed it, it decremented down until it was at -80. (Coincidentally it would also toggle the fast forward feature.) Now the game audio is muted. How can I bring the volume back up.....Also, it hasn't affected any of the other volume, i.e.: the main screen still has the same volume as before and other games do as well. But each time I go back to this game the volume is muted. What can I do??

@mitu Hi. I am using a Raspberry Pi 3 B+, with an official Raspberry Pi power supply. I have a keyboard set up as my controller (for now) and will be setting up a joystick and button set I purchased from Amazon.

The keyboard doesn't function like a gamepad, the hotkey doesn't get set.
What image did you use to install ? RetroPie doesn't have 'Save on Exit' enabled in RetroArch, so exiting a game and re-start it again should preserve the audio volume.

Thank you for your very fast reply...and please forgive my ignorance...I'm quite new to this. I am not sure which version I have of RetroPie. The image is from an SD card gifted to me from my sister. When I was assigning keys for the controller, I pressed the numberpad minus button to assign a hotkey. Now when I press that button and the spacebar, which I set for "select" is when I get the little "Audio: -80" message at the bottom left of my screen.

All games in this emulator are silent, but the other emulators are at the usual volume.

Did you sister purchase it or installed it herself ? Selling the RetroPie image is against the project's license, there are quite a number of 'sellers' doing that.

All games in this emulator are silent, but the other emulators are at the usual volume.

That's because not all emulators are the same. Press + on the keyboard to raise the volume up.

@mitu It was a Christmas present to me along with the Raspberry Pi, so I really don't know. In any case though, thank you very much for the help. I see that I was confused thinking I had assigned the "hotkey" button to the minus sign. Using the select and plus sign does indeed restore volume.
