Splashvideo not showing...
-
I have copied an .mp4 file to the /home/pi/RetroPie/splashscreens/video folder, and by calling omxplayer -o both /abovepath/video.mp4 I can see the video perfectly.
I tried manually editing the splashscreen list to the above mentioned, as well as trying to just choose the video as my splashscreen from the RetroPie menu Splash screens, but neither helps:the screen just goes black at bootup, and continues to load my frontend afterwards (no error messages or anything).
Previously I had the randomizer show a whole bunch of different splashscreens, but it seems that it didn't like that I changed it to a video.
I'm running RetroPie version 4.4.13.

No one knows how this could be?
Since I can call the video with a command from terminal, there must be a script somewhere that I can add the line to? -
@mitu can you help? You previously posted something regarding omxplayer -o alsa that worked on my Gameboy build but for some reason the same settings doesn't work on my arcade build (newer version of RetroPie).

@AndersHP In Retropie setup menu, Select Configuration / Tools option. Select splashcreens then select use your own splashscreens. Does your video show up in that list?
If it doesn't you could try copying your file to the root of the splash screens folder: /home/pi/RetroPie/splashscreens
Then going back into RetroPie menu to select your splashscreen video.

@HurricaneFan
It's on the list, and if I choose it in "preview" it plays perfectly.
Copying it to the root folder didn't help either. When I choose it and reboot, the screen is just black as stated above....
Is it something with tty settings? -
Where did you copy your video ? By any chance, are you using an external disk/stick for it (and for your ROMs) ?
-
@AndersHP Try this. This worked for me user ByteThis suggested this and it did the trick
"I had the same problem. I placed my splashscreen video in /home/pi/RetroPie/splashscreens and it wouldn't work...so I also placed the video in /opt/retropie/supplementary/splashscreen..used the use the Configuration/Tools / Splashscreen and set it to my choice..rebooted and it works as it should. You will need root access to add it to the /opt/retropie/supplementary/splashscreen folder."

Thanks for this eyeopener, both of you. It comes to mind, that the fact that the video is on a USB stick is the only real difference between my Gameboy and Arcade build.
Moving the file to the /opt/ folder mentioned did the trick! Awesome!

Most likely the USB stick is not 'mounted' (therefore inaccessible) when the splashscreen starts, so the video cannot be read and the splashscreen fails. Copying it to
/opt/retropi..
will copy the splashscreen on the SD card, which is immediately available on boot.
