    I'm trying to get Mario 64 hacks to work. All of the hacks I've tried starts and show the into logo that pop up when the game starts (original or modified). But then it just freezes with a black screen.
    Is there someone else that has gotten any Mario 64 hack to work on their pi?

    I'm on the Pi4 with mupen-plus-next.

      @langest I have gotten several to work. Which ones are you trying specifically?

        The last one I tried is "Last Impact".:

        $ md5sum SM64\ Last\ Impact\ \(widescreen\).z64
        0a7e132794c3ba6663229d443843f014  SM64 Last Impact (widescreen).z64

        This is the base rom I am using for the patches:

        $ md5sum Super\ Mario\ 64\ \(U\)\ \[\!\].z64
        20b854b239203baf6c961b850a4a51a2  Super Mario 64 (U) [!].z64

        I did get "Super Mario 64 O2 Reduced Lag.z64" to work. But that is the only one that get past the intro logo.
        Do the hacks usually use the same base rom?

        I have to sites where I find the patches, the O2 came from one and the others from the other. Could it be that one site is working better? I'll try some more today.

        @mitu is it ok to link to patch sites that don't contain original rom dumps?

            I have tried hacks from here: https://www.romhacking.net/games/847/
            And here: https://www.smwcentral.net/?p=section&s=sm64hacks
            And I am applying the patches using this browser tool: https://media.smwcentral.net/Alcaro/bps/

            And for some reason it works just fine with O2 hack but not any other. I noticed that even the retroarch menu seems to get somewhat unresponsive.
            @quicksilver which emulator are you using? And which version?
            Do I have the correct base rom?

              @langest a lot of n64 rom hacks rely on certain quirks of the emulator. As the emulators get more accurate, many of the rom hacks stop working. I have gotten last impact and super Mario star road working with the old lr-mupen64plus emulator. However you'll notice that many of the textures are black. There is a fix for this as well, you'll need to use a hex editor and search and replace a certain set of values in rom itself. (See here: https://github.com/gonetz/GLideN64/issues/1745)

              I have also gotten super Mario Bros n64 and 007 goldfinger working well using the standalone mupen64plus with gliden64 plugin.

                @quicksilver
                That's it, thanks.
                Works fine if I search for hacks that are expected to work on real hardware or if I use lr-mupen64plus. Haven't tried the black textures fix, but I am assuming that would just work the same.

                  It works ok on lr-parallel-n64.

                    @saccublenda which one? Or all of the above? Any specific settings used?

                      @quicksilver I was referring to Last Impact. No specific settings.

                        Ok, I take this back. :D
                        After updating lr-parallel-n64 from source (to fix the not saving core options bug) Last Impact crashes as soon as Mario gets near to the file save doors.
